The Cook is responsible for implementing the center’s Food Services, including meal preparation and servicing, receiving and storing food and supplies, kitchen sanitation, and maintain general records and inventory. The Cook ensures the center is in compliance with all appropriate local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the Food Services component, including USDA guidelines. Promotes school readiness by preparing children and families for school and life success, as it relates to this position. Actively supervise children by sight and sound at all times and in all environments. Maintains all health and safety regulations to create an optimum learning environment. Facilitates health practices to keep children safe in the school bus, outdoor and indoor environments.SPECIALIZATIONS
Initial employment physical, TB test or Chest X-ray, Tdap vaccination, a valid Arizona Driver's License and vehicle insurance are required. Must pass a criminal background check to include a Child Abuse and Neglect register check and obtain a level one fingerprint clearance card. Must have and maintain current Food Service Manager Card.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma /GED and three years’ experience leading/co-leading food preparation, inventory and purchasing. Applicant must be able to communicate with children, parents, and all ECD staff. Applicant must have basic keyboard skills and be able to use computer, computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe) and web based systems. Bilingual English Spanish is preferred.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES
- Coordinate food service activities with all components of ECD.
- Implement the menu in accordance with ECD Content Area Plans and Procedures, and established practices, budget requirements, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines.
- Perform administrative duties, which include but are not limited to menu planning, menu addendum/substitutions, completing menu production worksheets, completing time distribution reports, etc.
- Purchase food needed for meals and snacks served on-site, on field trips, and for children with special dietary needs.
- Prepare, organize, and set up the food for meals and snacks according to the “Time of Day Meal Service” guidelines as required by CACFP.
- Clean and maintain kitchen, food service utensils, equipment, and food storage areas to standards as mandated by federal, state and local laws and the Head Start Program Performance standards, including best food safety and sanitation practices.
- Assist the Center Service Manager, Center Office Manager and Nutrition Coordinator with required Child Care Food Program paperwork, which may include meal production records, monthly adjustment sheets, food transport records, inventories, attendance sheets and food purchase receipts.
- Compile monthly reports accurately and submit CACFP documentation on time.
- Post and maintain all required Child Care Food public notices.
- Participate in Individual Nutrition Plan (INP) meetings to ensure menu modifications are followed appropriately.
- Maintain and update board postings on kitchen board of children with special diets.
- Participate in team meetings, required in-services, pre-service and other trainings.
- Communicate and work effectively with other staff members.
- Train Assistant Cook and potential substitutes in the CACFP paperwork and in all other aspects of the cook’s roles and responsibilities.
- Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to cultural issues and community practices of low income and at risk families, including dual language speakers.
- Maintain confidentiality in administrative and programmatic matters.
- Must be able to complete duties including but not limited to: ensure proper food storage procedures are followed, cook food at the correct temperature, regulate ovens, inspect equipment and supply assessment of equipment function.
- Perform other duties as requested by immediate supervisor necessary to carry out the administrative/programmatic activities to fulfill the goals and objectives of CPLC ECD.
- Participate in the Farm to School initiative and or other events as needed
- In the event of a pandemic or unsafe situation, as declared by the Governor of Arizona, U.S. Government, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the World Health Organization, which makes performance of services impossible or unsafe, service, may be subject to modifications based on (CDC) & State guidelines.
- Ensure quality of data is secure and entered on applicable forms and/or computer databases (spreadsheets, etc.) for tracking/monitoring data.
