Responsibilities:

Excellence in customer service is our primary goal. No other task should ever come before serving our customers.

I. CUSTOMER SERVICE

  1. Offer consistent, fair and respectful customer interactions (both internal and external customers).
  2. Ensure a high standard to customer service store-wide according to established customer service vision and expectations.
  3. Provide product information and educational materials to customers and staff.
  4. Ensure quick response to customer questions and concerns. Maintain communication through the customer comment box.
  5. Understand and communicate the ‘cooperative advantage’ and the particulars of membership to shoppers and staff alike. Work to advance the mission of the Chequamegon Food Co-op through outstanding service to everyone we touch every day.

A. Assist customers with produce questions, in prompt friendly courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.

  1. B. Offer tastes, samples, suggestions for purchase and ways to prepare produce.
  2. C. Help customers place special orders.
  3. D. Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to Produce Department Manager
  4. - Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
  5. - Ability to stand for long periods, lift 50lbs, and move for long durations of time.
  6. - Ability to read, write and communicate well
  7. - Regular, predictable attendance
  8. - Willingness and ability to grow to meet the changing requirements of the job
  9. Available to work nights and weekends.
  10. Desired: Experience running restaurant, food service, catering or deli

Responsibilities:

II. PRODUCT HANDLING

A. Select deli offerings to provide both variety and consistency.

B. Establish procedures for pricing items to meet margin goals.

C. Ensure accurate up-to-date records of cost of preparing deli items.

D. Plan attractive self-service displays with uniform signage, and ensure displays are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness.

E. Oversee deli staff in working shifts to prepare all products in prompt, friendly, courteous manner.

F. Maintain up-to-date clear, accurate deli, bakery signs.

A. Display deli offerings to give impression of abundance and quality, while maintaining proper storage conditions.

B. Replenish and rotate displays, following stocking priorities set by Deli Manager.

C. Cull displays several times daily, recording and disposing of low-quality produce following established procedures.

E. Check prices and adjust according to department margins.

III. ORDERING AND RECEIVING

A. Place major daily orders.

B. Purchase designated products

C. Check deliveries for damage, quality and accuracy, notify Deli Manager of discrepancies.

D. Ensure returns and credit from suppliers where applicable.

E. Calculate prices following established pricing guidelines.

F. Help with unloading as needed.

G. Rotate deliveries into storage.

F. Perform all other departmental duties in absence of Deli Manager.

IV. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

A. Maintain produce cases, walk-in, prep and storage areas, and tools of the trade, in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.

B. Remove trash promptly, sweep and mop retail and prep area floors frequently.

C. Maintain department equipment in working order. Monitor cooler temperatures. Advise Produce Department Manager of equipment repair or replacement needs.

D. Participate in all inventory counts, and department cleanings.

A. Ensure food prep and display areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition meeting health department standards. Utilize and maintain food safety plans.

B. Ensure proper storage and labeling procedures.

C. Participate in monthly deli inventory counts.

D. Ensure adequate amounts of deli supplies.

E. Maintain department equipment in working order. Research and recommend major equipment repair or replacement.

VI. GENERAL MANAGEMENT

A. Participate in setting sales and margin goals for department.

C. Attend department meetings, all-staff meetings.

E. Perform Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.

F. Perform other tasks assigned by Deli Manager.

G. Provide leadership to all coop staff while upholding coop polices and principles

V. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Train other staff as assigned by Deli Manager.

B. Perform other tasks assigned by Produce Department Manager.

C. Attend All-Staff and departmental meetings as required.

Provide input on performance evaluations.

Assist with coaching for better performance

QUALIFICATIONS

- Familiarity with natural foods.

- Experience serving the public.

- Communications skills--good listener, clear instructions.

- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.

- Supervisory experience--hiring, training, evaluating, directing.

- Ability to read, write and communicate well

- Regular, predictable attendance

- Willingness and ability to grow to meet the changing requirements of the job

Available to work nights and weekends.
