Planning Intern

The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission seeks candidates for the position of Planning Intern. Champaign County RPC is a people-focused agency made up of over 100 programs designed to generate possibilities for all within our community. A great deal of planning goes into creating opportunities where people can succeed on their own, and RPC is doing that work. From analysis to policy guidance to offering services to our communities, RPC’s people plan for people. The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission seeks a Planning Intern to assist planners with research, data acquisition and analysis, synthesizing information, writing reports, GIS mapping, and assist with other tasks as needed for planning projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze relevant data using standard methods.

  • Work with staff conducting research, data analysis, GIS mapping, and preparing documents and other written communication

Required Qualifications:

  • At least three year of progress toward a degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field.

  • Experience with GIS, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products required.

  • Good analytical skills and experience with Python and R desired as well as excellent verbal, written and organizational skills

  • Hours: The schedule is flexible. The schedule will range from 15 – 20 hours per week on average during typical weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM


Status: Temporary (August 2019 – May 2020)

Pay Grade: 1

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Starting Wage: $13 - $15 (DOQ)
