Job Description

Cenveo, a world leader in the management and distribution of print and related offerings is seeking an experienced Production Manager with print knowledge for its Jersey City, NJ envelope manufacturing facility. 

A Bachelor’s degree is required with an emphasis on Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or similar preferred. We will consider experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of leadership experience in a production environment.

 Job Summary

 The Production Manager will provide leadership for the production/operations team on all shifts to   ensure that manufacturing processes run reliably and efficiently. The individual will be involved in managing the safety and quality programs, evaluating employee engagement (morale, training, hiring, etc.), monitoring existing processes and analyzing their effectiveness; and creating strategies to improve productivity and efficiency.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

These are functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation. 

  • Direct the enforcement of safety practices and ensure that adequate controls exist to prevent injuries and accidents. Review safety performance and provide corrective actions as appropriate. Work closely with Local and Regional Safety personnel including the Safety Committee to accomplish a safe working environment.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through continuous communication with sales, customer service, and customers.  
  • Ensure that departments are following established Policies/Procedures/Work Instructions/etc. Ensure that all prescribed records and documents are properly completed and maintained. Review performance and provide corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Accomplish 100% on-time delivery through effective planning, prioritizing, and coordinating. Investigate delivery failures to determine root cause and provide effective corrective action.
  • Develop planning initiatives for the Production group; this will include continuously evaluating the plant’s resources, capacities, capabilities, expenses, etc. to meet short and long-term growth goals.
  • Maintain effective communications with all support groups to ensure that proper attention is given to the manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with team to coordinate resources and prioritize tasks.
  • Develop, review, and revise standard operational and working practices and observe employees to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Develop/strengthen Production team through proper training, coaching, and guidance.
  • Drive lean and housekeeping activities to achieve and maintain excellence.
  • Ensure participation by all team members in continual improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Assist in planning the operating budget for all areas of accountability.
  • Foster a proper working environment through fair, consistent, and respectful treatment of employees. Work with Human Resources Manager to assist in solving challenging work-related issues.
  • Work to develop positive attitude on shop floor.
  • Work to foster a culture of ownership, teamwork, loyalty, and a sense of urgency by employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other (Non-Essential) Functions

Includes functions which are normally performed by persons holding this title.  However, these functions may be reassigned to other employees as part of a “Reasonable Accommodation” under the ADA.

  •  Other duties and assignments as required.
  •  Provide coverage for shift supervisors as needed.

Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required and we will consider experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. An emphasis on Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or similar required.
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior management, supervisory, or team leader experience.
  • Typically manages managers, supervisors, and hourly leads.
  • Responsible for performing work within one or more related functions or projects.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, and numerical data.
  • Ability to produce complex reports and general business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of the organization, vendors, and customers.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply the principles of advanced mathematics.
  • Understanding of the overall printing production process and strong working knowledge of the manufacturing/operations functions.
  • Adhere to and support all safety rules and guidelines set by corporate and the plant.
  • Strong PC skills including Office Software packages and internet.
  • Lead projects and provide guidance/training.
  • Requires ongoing coordination, communication and/or team problem solving between departments or functional areas for work production or service quality.

 Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

  • This position requires the incumbent to experience frequent periods of sitting, standing, walking, bend, stoop, kneel and twist.
  • The position requires the incumbent to occasionally lift, push, pull and carry minimal weights if needed with or without assistance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to grasp objects utilizing manual dexterity including hand/finger coordination and the utilization of color vision.
  • Exposure to noise; must wear hearing protection and safety shoes.
