Sr. Scientific/Scientific Associate - Innovation Engineer/Automation

The Senior Scientific/Scientific Associate, Innovation Engineering and Research Automation will collaborate with Century’s research team in order to harness the power of adult stem cells to develop curative therapies for cancer. We are seeking a cutting edge, inquisitive, and diligent Electrical Engineer (or similar) to build, program, and manage a custom robotic fluidic platform, as well as other industrial research technology. Using your skills in the fields of informatics and engineering, you will advance our automated biotechnology and cellular therapeutic capabilities. This position will play a vital role in progressing automated cancer research processes and devices for the next-generation cellular immunotherapies.

Responsibilities:
• Design, build and program custom automated devices and fluidic systems for cancer research
• Program, maintain and operate liquid handling robots and other laboratory devices
• Test and evaluate research equipment, procedures, and hypotheses
• Contribute new ideas and innovative approaches to the work of your group
• Study the relevant literature and leverage other professional sources
• Present research findings to the wider team and senior management
• Independently expand your knowledge base to complement the team
• Document all work, ensuring all protocols and results are stored and accessible
• Coordinate with team and management to align on priority objectives
• Work in accordance with safety regulations and other regulatory requirements
• Organize purchases and shipments and maintain laboratory and equipment
• Perform core position duties independently and other occasional work, as directed

Qualifications:
• Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably a Master’s) or related field, or equivalent industry experience
• Familiar with computer and electronics hardware, especially sensors and actuators
• Knowledgeable in software programming and languages, e.g., Python
• An interest in biological systems would be beneficial (bioreactors, physiology, …)

Requirements:
• Robust math skills, including statistical analysis and big data methodologies
• Demonstrated interest in research, with a proved ability to design and innovate
• Ability to self-audit your work and check data for errors and inconsistencies
• Passionate about positively influencing corporate culture, team dynamics, and influence scientific rigor and productivity
• Other desirable experience includes:
o Data acquisition and process control hardware from National Instruments Corporation - https://www.ni.com/en-us.html
o Systems integration, fluidics, data bank management, or stem cell biology
o Programming with LabView and data visualization with Spotfire or Tableaux
o Embedded systems programming skills
