Position: Business Manager

General Position Summary: The Business Manager is responsible for the full range of parish administrative functions for the church and the efficient and effective administration of parish financial, capital and human resources. Supports the Pastor, the parish staff and serves the needs of the parish.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Financial Functions. Develop/interpret financial procedures; develop annual budget; oversee counting teams; report financial status to finance council and parish. Oversees all major fund-raising campaigns and collection activities.
  • Facility Management. Direct the management of parish grounds, buildings.
  • Participate in Planning Activities. Participate in strategic planning. Perform financial forecasts.
  • Manage Human Resource Functions. Develop job descriptions; administer accountable reimbursement program; maintain personnel files; coordinate performance evaluation process; provide staff performance support; coordinate staff development; manage Administrative staff scheduling; coordinate disciplinary process; determine staffing needs.
  • Manage Church Data Assets. Maintain church data base(s); review/select vendors, negotiate contracts.
  • Supervise Direct Reports. Conduct performance reviews; approve time off requests; prioritize work assignments; monitor work hours and job descriptions.
  • Manage IT Functions. Develop/Administer IT policy and procedures; coordinate purchases, support, maintenance.
  • Maintain Church Safety and Security. Work with Maintenance Director to provide for facility access control and safety/fire/security systems.
  • Compliance and Legal Issues. Provide for legal compliance with HR issues, inspections, record retention and destruction.
  • Pursue Professional Development. Participate in Diocese business meetings; participate in related associations (NACBA); review professional journals, publications.
  • Manage Ancillary Operations. Review parishioner tuition status for parish school and Nolan.
  • Parish/School Communication. Review parish Bulletin; assist with parish Quarterly Newsletter.
  • Volunteers. Oversees count teams volunteer program including selection, training, recognition to ensure compliance with Safe Environment Program.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding business needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.
  • Ability to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time
  • Able to access and maintain centralized departmental files. Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels of shelves, climbing up a stepladder to access files
  • Significant amount of time regularly spent answering and speaking on the telephone providing customer service support and problem solving for both internal and external customers.
  • Data entry via computer keyboard that requires repetitive and frequent hand and wrist movement
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds with assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel may be required to Diocesan Parishes and/or the Catholic Center, along with occasional trips to vendor locations for meetings.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 4 to 5 years of comparable work experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as Manager or Supervisor in office environment.
  • Experience with Catholic Church Administrative Office is preferred.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with Fiscal planning and management, general accounting, budgeting and payroll.
  • Experience with Sage Intact (preferred)
  • Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Microsoft Office/Intermediate to advanced capabilities with a heavy emphasis in Excel, and Word. Experience with Publisher and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, customer service skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to oversee technology concepts, including personal computer and network server needs.
  • Active member in good standing of a Roman Catholic parish Church with knowledge of the Catholic Church organizations.
