Salary: $24.08 - $25.30/hr

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the coordination and performance of a wide range of accounting and financial functions for Catholic housing corporations involving private, non-profit, and federal funds.


Job Duties/Responsibilities

Accounting Tasks

  1. Supports the VP and Director as the internal department expert in month end closing and in accounting processing.
  2. Work with Housing Department leadership to achieve department goals and objectives.
  3. Provides training, guidance, and support in process improvements to Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists under the guidance of the VP and Director.
  4. Responsible for the timely and accurate monthly reporting of all operating models for their portfolio. Operating model to include monthly financial statements, score cards, board defined KPI’s and cash positions.
  5. Responsible for the oversight of legal entity organization charts, fixed asset schedules, debt schedules, waterfall calculations and reconciliations for their portfolio.
  6. Responsible for guiding communications and preparation of supporting documents for the annual financial statement audits. Reconciles trial balances on a continuous basis. Prepares supporting documentation to meet compliance. Able to analyze and report review of published audits.
  7. Assists the VP and Director to report to investor members for interim financial reporting, and project stabilization.
  8. Process cash receipts from funders and investors for development projects
  9. Prepares entity renewal applications and other legal compliance reports (e.g., annual partnership renewal for the Secretary of State) as assigned.
  10. Responsible to organize, track and report to corresponding parties for all Insurance claims affecting a project within the portfolio. Analyze and abate expenses and assessed deductibles accordingly.
  11. Assists Sr. Accountant in preparing supporting documentation for the financial statement audits
  12. Responsible for regulatory and interim financial reporting for their portfolio.
  13. Responsible for the tracking and timely submission of contract renewal documents/ utility analysis/ Rent Comparability Studies/ respond to agencies connected to renewal, staying within the guidelines of HUD/LIHTC/HOME requirements.
  14. Oversees the annual portfolio level budgeting process.
  15. Oversees grant billings as necessary. 
  16. Prepares entity renewal applications and other legal compliance reports (e.g., annual partnership renewal for the Secretary of State) as assigned.
  17. Responsible for department evaluation and improvements of accounting systems to create appropriate financial and internal controls in accordance with GAAP requirements.
  18. Will regularly utilize all forms of communication (email, text, phone, etc.) and database practices necessary for this position and as directed by supervisor.
  19. As a mandated reporter, follows all procedures outlined in agency policies and procedures to report to the proper agency when there is suspicion and/or confirmation that a child or adult has been a victim of abuse or neglect.
  20. Adheres to the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine.
  21. Performs as a team member to assure that productivity outcome measures are achieved.

Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below.  These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job. 

Education/Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • B.S. in accounting, finance, business administration and/or a combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Grant Accounting is preferred
  • Knowledge of accounts payable including payment of independent contractors, 1099 reporting, sales tax and use tax.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting and how to distribute expenses directly and indirectly.
  • Knowledge of audit requirements; in both general accounting and auditing practices in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and complex Electronic Accounting software. Knowledge of data querying, Trello Board and similar software strongly preferred. MIP Fund Accounting preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or with limited supervision.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Knowledge and experience with computerized general ledger accounting software and office productivity software including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Ability to train and educate using positive, supportive, and patient reinforcement methods.
  • Affordable and/or commercial housing experience preferred.


Certificates/Licenses: To perform this job successfully, an individual must:

  • No specific licenses are required, CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Successfully pass background applicable to position

Workplace Environmental Conditions

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will be:

  • Noise Conditions: exposed during a shift to constant or intermittent sounds at moderate to loud levels of sound dependent upon the daily activities.
  • Exposure to Trauma: Employees of Catholic Charities Eastern Washington provide direct services to vulnerable community members including those who have behavioral health challenges and those who have been exposed to trauma.
