The Role:


Catalytic is looking for a proactive, driven Security Ops Engineer who is motivated by the challenge to deliver highly available, secure, and scalable enterprise software. This Mid - Level position is a key member of our engineering team who will enable us to continuously deliver quality software. The ideal candidate would have experience designing and developing services-based enterprise software architecture and security.


Our nimble teams work closely to rapidly build and deploy products. We are seeking someone who can communicate clearly and balance business objectives with product quality. You will work with other DevOps and application engineers to understand the product and business needs, provide expertise around the application and AWS cloud service development, as well as continually improve our security and platform from malicious traffic, vulnerabilities, and other attack vectors.

You have extensive knowledge in:

  • Cloud-based service-oriented architecture deployments
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Container orchestration
  • Serverless Services
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Security policies and procedures
  • Code review, threat modeling, intrusion detection and incident response
  • Linux and bash scripting
  • Python is a PLUS
  • Penetration testing is a PLUS
  • Automated deployment scripts
  • Enterprise SaaS
  • You are passionate about building and supporting highly available, secure and scalable enterprise environments
  • Linux administration
  • Data Security Compliance, Confidentiality, and Standards
  • Encryption and Certificates
  • Prevention of a cyber attack

What You'll Do:

  • Build and support highly available, secure, and scalable environments
  • Build and deploy automation scripts
  • Build and maintain systems for logging, monitoring, and reporting
  • Improve Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Evaluate the security of the platform and implement recommendations
  • Maintain and support infrastructure for all environments
  • Support and maintain Continuous Integration framework
  • Specify and implement security tools, architecture, standards, and best practices
  • Secure networks, databases, operating systems, web servers, applications, libraries, auth systems, encryption, etc.
  • Patch and maintain systems
  • Application security scanning
  • Work with developers on improving application security
  • Linux and AWS administration
  • Backups, recovery, data loss prevention
  • Documentation
  • Disaster Recovery Planning and Testing
  • Support team on-call rotation
  • Cost reporting and savings


What You Know:

  • BS in computer science or related engineering, science, or math discipline and 5+ years related work experience (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree)
  • Strong operational and leadership experience
  • Strong skills with Amazon Web Services Compute, Databases, Storage, Application Integration, Management and Governance, Networking and Content Delivery, Security, Identity and Compliance
  • Experience in deploying cloud-based applications with containers and AWS services
  • Experience with code review, container scanning, threat modeling, intrusion detection, and incident response
  • You have Linux server administration experience (Linux+ or LPIC-1 certs are a plus!)
  • You have Docker orchestration experience (ECS, EKS)
  • Experience with configuration management tools (CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Experience with security practices, methods, and tools. Previously worked within a HIPAA compliant environment is a plus.
  • GitLab experience is a plus.
  • Strong skills working on software build/release and in a distributed software development team
  • Familiarity with software weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and secure coding review a plus
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), time management, interpersonal and team participation skills
  • One or more security certifications a strong plus! (CEH, CISM, CISSP, GCES, Security+, etc.)
