Castilleja is looking for an energetic Camp Director to lead Casti’s Summer Camp. For more than 55 years, Castilleja School has been home to Casti Camp, a summer camp that offers all-day, all-girl fun! Girls who come to camp experience the true meaning of summer with dedicated time and space for play, creativity, exploration, and discovery. Casti Camp is a wonderful combination of cherished traditions and exciting activities, creating a world that is both relevant and inspiring for girls today. Our camp provides girls from 2nd-6th graders a joyful summer experience, and we offer a vibrant Counselor-in-Leadership-Training (CiLT) program to rising 7th-9th graders. These older mentors offer valuable and lasting lessons in leadership to our younger campers. Our campers have access to all of the beautiful Castilleja facilities which include gymnasiums, art rooms, a swimming pool, classrooms, theatre, playing fields and more! The program provides daily lunch, snacks, and has extended care options.
About the position:
We are seeking a dynamic leader and camp enthusiast to lead our day camp for girls! We are looking for a leader who will build relationships with campers and parents, lead and inspire our camp counselors and oversee all aspects of Casti Camp making sure that the operation runs smoothly and safely. As the Camp Director you will have complete oversight and responsibility for counselor hiring, program development, and management of day-to-to-day operations. You will build strong relationships with counselors, campers and parents. You will help campers discover their passions and interests. The Director is supported by an Assistant Director and a Summer Operations team at Castilleja. The Camp Director will serve as a role model to campers and staff through their actions, manners, language, and general conduct.
While the camp program runs from June 15 through August 07, 2020, the Director will begin program planning and work in the Fall, 2019 and will start hiring camp counselors and leaders beginning in January and will work approximately 5-10 hours per week through April 2020. As the start of camp draws closer, the Director’s work schedule will ramp up from 15 hours in early May to 30 hours a week through the end of May. This is a seasonal full-time position which begins June 1, 2020 and will end approximately August 15, 2020.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or camp administration
3 to 5 years prior camp experience either as a camp lead counselor or in a leadership position.
Prior experience working with 2nd-8th graders (preferably girls)
Previous experience mentoring or teaching young adults (19-25)
First Aid / CPR / AED certified
Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a DMV check
Ability to pass an FBI and DOJ Background Check
Ability to provide a negative TB Risk Assessment within 60 days of hire
Appreciation and love of working with children and families
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced camp setting
Ability to problem-solve and think creatively
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Demonstrated initiative and flexibility
Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to creating an inclusive environment
The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes. Must be able to assist and lead campers in cases of emergency (fire, earthquake, illness or injury).
This position will work indoors and outside throughout the duration of the camp.
