Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE The primary objective of the Training Manager is to lead university-wide educational/ training efforts relating to research administration. This position will design, develop, deliver, and evaluate a comprehensive range of responsive educational curricula and training programs for all levels of faculty and staff focusing on foreign influence, financial management of grants, and proposal development and submission. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Strategic planning - Develop strategic plans for a comprehensive educational portfolio. Participate in weekly management team meetings to develop program priorities and plan program activities. Participate in university leadership meetings to assess and build areas for collaboration. Identify and address short- and long-term goals. Develop and manage training and development budget. Responsible for nearly all administrative and financial implementation and maintenance of numerous programs with only general oversight. Develop and maintain all administrative materials and functions for educational programs. Serve as the expert on planning and development of educational programs and activities related to research administration. (11%)Curriculum - Conduct research to identify trends in research administration educational programs in relevant subject areas including but not limited to Sparta, COI, IRB, research compliance regulations, foreign influence, research integrity, regulatory compliance, financial management of grants, and proposal development and submission. Review current materials, and develops concept papers for new subject areas. Write proposals for new educational programs and continuing education. Develop training curricula and recommend or utilize vendor programs that meet instructional goals and objectives. Create outlines and storyboards for new face-to-face and web-based trainings. Formulate training outlines and determine instructional methods, utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and effectiveness of such methods as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops. Review and edit the learning objectives, concepts, and presentation methods. Research and review teaching formats and advise on best practices for teaching. Serves as a professional resource for staff regarding educational curriculum, materials, and instructional design (11%)Needs assessment Conduct needs assessments and analyze training and development gaps on an individual, community, department, and university-scale. (11%)Materials - Select or develop training aids, including training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works. Ensure training materials meet compliance with regulations. (11%)DELIVERY - Deliver group and individual instruction and training covering a range of technical, operational, and/or management areas in a specified field. (11%)Technology - Develop technology strategy for use in online classes as well as classes with both live and distance students simultaneously interacting. Lead education and training video development and production in collaboration with University Marketing and Communication. Manage the content and organization of the online learning management system. (10%)Evaluation - Conduct program assessment, including surveys of students, faculty and staff. Evaluate effectiveness of training and development programs and utilize relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods. May review instructor performance and recommend improvements to program content and/or instructor presentation methods; may recruit, select, and train instructors. Manage the review process for projects and curricula. (10%)Reporting - Assist with oversight and management of continuing education credit, national accreditations and/or certification program requirements, monitoring, and tracking. Run queries to generate needed reports. Review reports for inaccuracies and research issues for resolution. Determine what additional information may be necessary for inclusion in the database. (10%)
    Supervision - May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation. (5%)Certificate Lead the development and implementation of a Research Administration Certificate program available to staff and faculty. (5%).Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)
CONTACTSDepartment: Frequent contact with assistant director of assistant vice president for research integrity. regular contact with the associate directors for research compliance, assistant vice president for research, associate vice president for research, and the executive director of research compliance. Moderate contact with other department staff members to develop and implement training programing for faculty and staff involved in sponsored project conduct and administrationUniversity: Frequent with university faculty, staff, and students, various school research administration departments to plan for and provide training.External: Frequent contact with faculty and research staff involved in research at affiliated institutions collaborating conducting federally sponsored research to provide training.Students: Occasional contact with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and post-doctoral fellows and scholars to provide training. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYNot applicable QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Experience: Bachelors degree and 5 years of related work experience is required OR high school education and 10 years of related work experience.
