Primary Purpose of this Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide group and individual substance abuse mental health counseling to substance abuse consumers. The person in this position will work with clients and families/natural supports to assess their strengths and needs in order to determine the type(s) of treatment modalities needed and then provide those services directly. Duties may also include providing continued clinical assessment, psycho-education about mental health and substance abuse diagnoses and treatment, maintaining oversight of services provided within the Agency, and developing/evaluating the person-centered plan (PCP) with the client and family, if appropriate, to ensure that services are being delivered and are appropriate to the needs of the client and family/natural supports. Duties may also include outreach to community stakeholders, reviewing authorizations and billing information, maintaining oversight of services provided within and outside the agency, acting as an advocate for the client and family/natural supports in the community. This position is intended to be an average of 75% direct clinical services and 25% administrative duties.

List of Responsibilities, Requirements, and Duties

Direct Services

· Assess and monitor client’s mental health and substance abuse needs through comprehensive clinical assessment or diagnostic assessment.

· Work to implement therapeutic interventions, crisis interventions, behavioral interventions, psych-educational activities, and other best evidence-based practice therapies available

· Provide individual, family, or group therapy to clients and their families/natural supports, based on needs, diagnoses, and best evidence-based practices and in a way that adheres to the Agency’s core values

· Provide any required documentation, which includes treatment notes, goals, comprehensive clinical assessment/diagnostic assessments, and plans for the medical record (e.g., service notes, PCP, etc.)

· Work with clients/families/natural supports to assess strengths/needs, assist with planning, developing, implementing, and assessing treatment and ancillary services.

· Recommend the types of treatment modalities needed and provide these services directly or by referral.

· Develop/evaluate the service plan to ensure that services are being delivered and are appropriate to the needs of the client.

· Act as an advocate in the community.

· Be available to respond as needed to clients, co-workers and supervisees 24/7/365.

· Respond to consumer and/or stakeholder concerns or complaints as needed.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience

At a minimum, a Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, or psychology with a full or associate license is required to perform this role.

The employee must become NVCI certified. The employee will be required to attend orientation in the Carolina Outreach, LLC, treatment philosophy and Agency policies and procedures which includes information on client rights and confidentiality. A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance is also required. An employee must demonstrate having the core skills to deliver substance abuse services prior to service provision. Upon obtaining a LCAS employee will complete required training to conduct DWI assessments and file e508 documentation. Substance abuse license required.

Special Training/Skills

Must demonstrate ability to organize and plan weekly schedule and manage time effectively. Must be committed to a solution oriented, family focused, community-based intervention approach to service. Must demonstrate ability to provide clinical team leadership and ability to work within a team model. Must demonstrate an ability to provide appropriate support and supervision to supervisees. Must demonstrate ability to join with clients and families in a full partnership building on strengths, community resources, and formal and informal supports. Must possess thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and standards of care for treatment/services. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation effectiveness. Must communicate regularly with all supervisees and provide regular individual and group supervision. Must be competent with office software applications. Must be adept at initiating daily activities without direct supervision. Must have functional and reliable personal vehicle to meet position in-home requirements.
