Vice President of Operations - Long Beach or San Francisco

Cargomatic is in search of a strategic Vice President of Operations with heavy experience in the brokerage and logistics industry. The Vice President is responsible for operational efficiency across the company to ensure that budget targets are met and that operations are being executed in an efficient and profitable manner. The VP must be tech and systems savvy, and highly skilled in financial acumen, data analysis, and driving metrics. The VP will be expected to improve operating margin through collaboration with team members and executive leadership, while ensuring tools and support are in place to meet objectives in the near and long-term. The VP will be instrumental in root cause problem solving analysis, solutions development, and execution within our trucking and customer service operations. The ideal candidate will have previous senior leadership experience within a similar technology-focused business model, and a proven track record of maintaining and growing profitable business initiatives nationwide. They must possess the ability to handle multiple priorities, and address present concerns while keeping an eye on future opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide operational oversight of Cargomatic, including financial planning, personnel, company asset management/utilization, and collaboration with executive leadership to ensure overall profitability of the company
  • Lead the assessment, plan development, and execution of a full-scale operations and customer support strategy; formulate and implement a strategic plan that will drive Cargomatic’s customer and carrier focus into a nationwide, 24/7 operation
  • Provide professional management and leadership to the company, including mentoring and developing key senior management members and instilling best practices from an operational and sales perspective
  • Develop and manage the daily workload of an offshore operations team by assigning and tracking work effectively; provide guidance to ensure business needs are met
  • Ensure that customers and carriers are effectively managed and held accountable through measurement of performance and continuous improvement, including delivery performance, quality improvement, cost reduction/control, and response time
  • Assess current SOPs, manage by exception, and identify key opportunities for improvement; work closely with the executive leadership team to address potential strategic, tactical, and operating issues
  • Manage service and technology life cycle with persistent focus on quality through the eyes of the customer/user so that new and existing services and tech are optimally integrated
  • Identify and translate business needs and priorities into logistics strategies that contribute to and drive technology improvements
  • Manage and report on key operational processes, financial budget, and performance indicators
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop an annual business plan for inclusion in the company’s overall business plan, and provide long-term business growth and expansion forecasting
  • In partnership with the Sales team, grow the business’s top-line revenue by implementing, maintaining, and growing customer relationships
  • Support all other special assignments as directed
  • Travel as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within the brokerage or 3PL segment of the logistics industry, with a heavy focus on technology, metrics, sales, account management, and operations
  • Experience with drayage, LTL and truckload transportation/logistics contracts and agreements
  • Prior experience in a director-level role or above
  • Experience managing and developing both onsite and offshore teams
  • A strategic thinker who can utilize their analytical and technological skills to quickly understand concepts/needs and effectively develop, execute, and manage programs, metrics, and solutions
  • Proven track record of leading an organization through significant, profitable growth for a sustained period of time
  • Strong operational and financial acumen, and measurable success in developing, implementing, and executing on plans
  • Demonstrated ability to improve profitability and efficiency within existing operations along with revenue/account growth
  • Proven ability to succeed with minimal guidance, manage multiple projects at once, and take initiative under ambiguous circumstances
  • A dedicated and motivating leader of people and processes who is capable of successfully managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Experience working in a start-up or technology environment a plus
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required
