Job Description


The Buyer/Planner has overall accountability for managing the tactical side of the supply chain with a main focus on finished and semi-finished goods in a fast paced work environment. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to balance short/long term priorities and exceptional multitasking skills are a must for the position. Key focus is to have the right material available at the right time to support high on time delivery to both internal and external customers. The role is a key contributor to service level while consciously managing inventory levels and costs.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Through daily phone calls, emails, faxes and other forms of communication, ensure all purchase orders for FGs, Semi-FGS and Components are ordered and delivered on time to planned delivery dates.
  • Provide daily communication and feedback to internal planners and manufacturing personnel as to delivery dates, delays, and/or process problems.
  • High interaction/collaboration with Production Planners and Senior Planner as part of the Planning team.  Cross train for support activites as needed.
  • Attend daily/weekly meetings as requested or required to provide the most current delivery information while obtaining manufacturing requirements.
  • Communicate to suppliers any increases/decreases/scheduling alingments or changes to production requirements and assess impact to supplier(s) and manufacturing.
  • Send/Review Supplier open order reports.
  • Schedule/particiapate in supplier meetings/calls, review Lead-time, delivery performance
    • Review Oracle data to determine root cause of delay(if Required)



  • Placing purchase orders, rescheduling orders, confirmations, invoice reconciliation, decision of order quantitites and due dates according to stock balance and costs
  • Review planned  order releases and process accordingly
  • Interact with supplier quality to ensure disposition of defective materials.
  • Other duties as assigned








  • Must have a working knowledge of MRP (ORACLE Preferred), Excel, Word and purchasing practices.  Familiarity with manufacturing processes and how they are affected by material flow.
  • Data Analysis and Preparation – Interpret and present data to plan and resolve both proactive and reactive challenges. Propose solutions and take actions.
  • Be able to maintain adequate levels of inventory to meet the Manufacturing/Sales plan – based on exception messages from MRP; Also interfacing with suppliers relative to new production development, changing forecasts and quality issues to assure a controlled flow of incoming material. 
  • Manage suppliers relative to Carel’s expectations involving quality and delivery.  This will be achieved by use of expediting techniques, vendor schedules and corrective action requests.




  • Place purchase orders daily
  • Guide and direct priorities for vendor schedules.
  • Work within a 1 day to 6+ month planning horizon
  • Create and execute plans to reduce lead times.
  • Resolve disposition of nonconforming materials (in conjunction with quality department).
  • Monitor flow of material to enhance inventory control (interact with Forecast and Demand Planning teams)



  • Good verbal and written skills


  • Algebra
  • Moderate statistics


  • Related planning certifications
  • Advanced level Excel or analyst skills desired
  • Oracle knowledge a plus
  • Lean Principles a plus




Ability to sit for long periods of time and do focused computer work. Some standing and walking required.  



Desk, computer and phone work. Some occasional exposure to the shop and floor warehouse and manufacturing areas related to material order status and annual physical inventory support activities.
