The Medical Director provides leadership and oversight of all medical services within the state’s mental health programs- in collaboration with the State, Regional and Program Directors. Responsibilities include participation in the hiring, development and performance management of all medical staff, and ensuring mental health treatment services are provided in concert with the policies, procedures, and government rules and regulations for the program(s). 
*This is a Contract, 20 hour per week position, handling administrative functions*

About your Role:
The Medical Director is a contracted administrative position and is responsible for the management and oversight of all mental health care provided to clients and for the quality of services rendered as well as supervise the medical personnel.·         Provide leadership over medical services, while developing and implementing plans for enhancement of medical services.
·         Ensures agency adherence and compliance to licensure, accreditation, contractual obligations and company guidelines.
·         Ensure medical staff are providing appropriate medical services, and enforces safety regulations.
·         Recommends measures to improve methods, performance and quality of medical service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency.
·         Assists medical officials in preparation of department budget, as needed.
·         Provides training, resources or tools to assist in enhancing training programs.
·         Assists programs with screening, interveiwing, and onboarding of new medical personnel.
·         Interprets, prepares and distributes statistical data regarding department operations.
·         Provides consultation to our medical staff to address client questions or concerns.
·         Reports program concerns, as outlined in policy and procedures, in a timely manner to the State, Regional or Program Directors, and assist in disseminating information to and from the staff.
·         Participates in required meetings with payors or payor-representatives.
·         Inspects and makes recommendations regarding sanitation and elimination of health hazards.
·         Participates in creating, developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure California operations has an effective Medication Monitoring program.
·         Conducts medication chart audits per company policy.
·         Oversees the Morbidity and Mortality committee, reviews incident reports and provides direction and training.
·         Provides direction on matters related to State of Emergencies/Pandemics and attends regular meetings to ensure national and state policies are handled accordingly.
·         Maintain and ensures HIPAA, ethical standards and professional boundaries with all staff and clients.
·         Acts as back up to the medical staff in response to a psychiatric emergency.
·         Other duties assigned or necessary to support the program and/or the company.

Education and/or Experience
                                     
  • Degree from accredited medical school.
  Certificates, Licenses, Registrations             
  • Medical doctor or doctor of osteopathy licensed to practice in CA.
  • Proof of: valid California driver’s license and auto insurance, as well as proof of education are required.  Prior behavioral health experience preferred.
  • A substance use disorder medical director shall receive a minimum of 5 hours of continuing medical education in addiction medicine each year; ASAM (Academy Society of Addiction Medicine).
 Knowledge, Skills and Experience 
  • 5 years of experience in management level positions delivering medical services in a behavioral health setting.
  • Excellent leadership, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred experience in a community-health setting or residential treatment.
  • Will require knowledge and ability to audit files, charts, and EHR (Electronic Health Records), as needed.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule to meet the needs to the programs. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, computer skills and communication skills are a must.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
 

Does the Following Apply to You?
  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine and licensed as a physician in the State of CA. Five years practice experience beyond residency training.  Board-certified or board-eligible in psychiatry.  Demonstrated professional commitment to providing services to medically underserved person. 
  • A minimum of 4 years supervisory experience required. 
  • Must have current fingerprint clearance (and maintain during employment) and be able to pass the background check.  Proof of: current TB test, a valid CA driver’s license as well as proof of education are required.  Prior behavioral health experience required. Bilingual-Spanish/English a plus.
