Job Overview:

Carbon America is seeking a Senior Drilling Engineer to support our project execution teams. The main responsibilities include planning, design, and documentation for well drilling programs. Administers drilling and service contracts, plans well drilling operations, works with drilling personnel on site and requires minimal supervision. Projects range in size and complexity.

This position can influence the growth and success of the Drilling Operations Group. This position reports into the Drilling Operations Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering field from an ABET accredited program
  • Minimum of 6-8 years related experience of progressively responsible experience in oil and gas drilling operations.
  • Well Planning/Construction
  • Knowledge in state/province and federal regulatory laws and regulations
  • Strong preference for those with:
    • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project related goals
    • Efficient time management and the ability to concurrently handle multiple projects
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Self-starter and able to work independently

Preferred

  • Oil and gas industry experience preferred
  • Experience with Class VI Injection Well Projects is preferred
  • IADC WellSharp® Certification preferred but not required

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform drilling engineering work and studies as required.
  • Prepare estimated drilling well costs and budget generation for company drilling activities
  • Provide technical support to the Drilling Operations Manager to ensure that each well is completed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Determine and provide best practices to achieve optimum drilling performance
  • Develop and improve internal processes
  • Provide leadership, training and mentoring to less experienced team members
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
  • Provide field support during drilling operations
  • Support Permitting, Land, and Facility teams
  • Support Business Development and Marketing Initiatives

General Requirements and Job Details:

  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to eight hours per day
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • This position is based out of our Lakewood, Colorado office
    • Travel is required to project sites. Travel is expected to be intermittent with an average of 20% travel time
  • This is a Monday through Friday, Full-Time, Exempt position
    1. This is a salaried position so there may be times when a non-standard schedule is required
  • This is an annual salary of $130,000 - $170,000
