Summary of Role/Position

The Assistant Director of DC Operations guarantees the overall success of a highly complex, 385k square foot ecommerce distribution center environment to ensure it is a productive, safe, and positive place to work. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of DC Operations and is responsible for the overall management, planning, organization, and execution of complete day- to-day operation for the entire distribution center and budget. They are responsible for maximizing productivity and expenses while working ethically and modeling our company’s core values. They accomplish this goal by assisting with developing strategies and objectives and leading a team of managers in tactical execution of these strategies and objectives. They must ensure that the distribution center is optimally organized to provide excellent customer service to our customers by ensuring all merchandise is delivered on-time and damage free. The Assistant DC Director must have a comprehensive knowledge of the Distribution, Warehousing, and Parcel shipping business, be able to use this knowledge to drive a high level of execution and be capable of motivating his/herself and a team of 200-300+ Associates to work as a team and accomplish these goals and objectives.


  • Manage all aspects of the DC's financial, operational, people and process and service-related objectives to drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains to reduce overall cost-to-serve; Participates in strategic and business process improvement projects for the distribution network. Depending on DC, may manage 3PL provider to ensure optimal performance and metrics are achieved.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of and recommends alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product; manage to ensure warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency as seasonality and inventory needs require.
  • Interact with business partners to drive results and deliver solutions including Supply Chain, Engineering, Merchandising, Finance, and Human Resources; identify and share best practices across the Distribution network
  • Coach, train, and develop associates informally and through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g. on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g. written evaluation) job performance based feedback. Creates and maintains an employee-centered workplace that demonstrates care and concern for all Associates.
  •  Directly responsible for ensuring that customer needs are met, service is managed to KPIs, and any customer concern is handled promptly and completely.
  •  Ensure a culture of safety throughout the organization by following safety policies and procedures - monitor DC safety, physical security, and operational metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis


  • Minimum 5-8 years of management experience within a distribution center environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business is helpful. Master’s degree in business or logistics preferred.
  • Certification in Continuous Improvement or Lean Process is highly preferred. 
  • Experience with industry related Labor Management Systems
  • Highly computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Effective communication and skilled collaborator
  • Organized and detail-oriented
