Canvas Learning Management System Administrator (Part Time) (20-25 hours/week)
Capitol Technology is a private, non-profit university in South Laurel, Maryland, with approximately 800
students and a dedicated full-time staff of 75. The Assistant Director of User Experience would be part of
a team of five full-time professionals, six Instructional Designers, and three student workers. This
position is an excellent opportunity for a Database Manager, Computer Programmer, and Online
Educational Help-desk administrator looking for flexible part-time remote work.
Position Summary:
Canvas Learning Management System Administrator supports the University's Learning Management
System (Canvas) and internal applications to ensure front and back-end support of students, faculty, and
staff. The Canvas Learning Management System Administrator The Assistant Director reports to the
Director of Instructional Design and Online Learning and works with the director to ensure efficiency in
user Learning Management System (Canvas) access and provide institution-wide direction in system
enhancement, LTI integrations, and Help Desk Operations. Additionally, this position offers flexible
schedule options and work from home. This role is a hybrid position consisting of 3 days of work from
home and two days of on-campus work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Learning Management System Administration (75 Percent)
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the university's Learning Management System (LMS)
Manage the LTI request process including; installation, maintenance, and support.
Define, maintain, and ensure LMS roles, permissions, and Admins are up-to-date
Implement related system communications for students, faculty, and staff
Ensure Timely Communication and facilitation of solutions for all Canvas LMS and Jenzabar integrations
Oversee and enhance the Canvas SIS integration script (written in Python)
Maintain the university's Canvas Account Hierarchy
Provide insight on the utilization and improvement of the bi-directional Jenzabar's Student Information
System to Canvas LMS API integration process
Facilitate the Canvas onboarding process.
Liaise with Student Life to produce Right Start Planning Day.
Help Desk Administration (25 Percent)
Management of the University Help Desk, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues related to all
Online Learning supported platforms.
Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on SLA efficiency and user experience concerns/trends
Maintain up-to-date records of help-desk solutions.
Required Skills:
The desired candidate must possess the following:
A Bachelor's Degree or Applicable Certificates/Certifications (Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology)
1-2 years of experience supporting end users with Canvas LMS or Blackboard
Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills
Experience managing multiple deadlines.
Familiarity with WordPress, Zoom, Educause, Amazon Web Servers, Google Cloud Console, Apigee, and Boomi API
