Job Description

Job Summary: 

 

Hands on position that actively supports Global Food Safety Initiatives (GFSI) and Quality level standard operating procedures that uphold routine quality assurance and laboratory duties related to food safety and quality, regulatory compliance, sanitation control, environmental health services, research & product development, maintenance, manufacturing and/or warehouse practices.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

 

Performs routines such as GMP, food safety fundamental line checks, in process inspections, Food Defense, PCO walk through, temperature control, holds, complaint investigational support, allergen management control, shipping and receiving load over check, material FIFO inspections, laboratory testing, tote cleaning inspections,  and all aspects of continuous improvement and sanitation control.

 

Key Functions:

·         May lend administrative support for reviewing all simple to moderate level complexity of documents with data entry.

·         Reviews documentation for accuracy and thoroughness to determine suitability for overall acceptance.

·         In charge of food safety and quality line checks, warehouse daily walk through and other GMP related duties as directed by the quality and sanitation control management team.

·         Performs net weight control, routine lab testing, bake offs, sanitation cleaning inspections, pre-operations, Glass & Hard Plastic audit, Water Temperature audit, Temperature monitoring, warehouse FIFO, CCP verifications, pest control, returned goods, start up, changeover, and other internal quality assurance related audits or inspections pursuant to the official SOP index of programs as directed by the quality management team.

·         Specials assignments and task be it administrative, practical, or technical as requested by the Quality Assurance management team.

·         Assist quality unit, manufacturing, and sanitation with miscellaneous request.

  • Has responsibility to report food safety and quality concerns to the key personnel that has the authority to initiate corrective actions.

 

EDUCATION/Experience

 

·         High School diploma with some science courses (Biology, chemistry); Associate of Arts Degree in Sciences, preferred; 1-3 years of experience required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

 

·         Must be detailed oriented with excellent organizational skills with a sense of urgency.

·         Is self-directed, works independently, and makes rational, sound, and highly professional decisions.

·         Comfortable speaking confidently in front of others that may have a  higher level of authority.

·         Practical Skills – Experience in the food and baking industry.

·         Language Skills – fluent in English with the ability to read and interpret quality systems, sanitation, regulatory, laboratory technical documents. (fluent Spanish is a plus)

·         Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts on such documents as Net Weight program, and ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics, very basic statistics (mean, mode, median).

·         Reasoning – Ability to multi-task while paying attention to accuracy and detail. 

·         Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

·         Computer Skills – Beginners to moderate ability to operate computer software systems; knowledge of various operating systems to include Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Outlook, Word (a must).

·         Ability to work well with others and good interpersonal communication skills.

·         Must be professional and even tempered during times of conflict and have the ability to enforce rules and make decisions that are not popular yet are in the best interest of the company for achieving GFSI level of meeting regulatory and ensuring food safety and quality fundamentals are met.

·         The work environment and physical demands described is representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

·         Primarily a manufacturing type of environment with exposure to elements of the weather outside, including indoor cold and/or freezing temperatures.

·         While performing the duties of this job; the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk at a fast pace, climb, bend, reach overhead, stoop, squat, reach at low levels, and have full ability to turn head from side–to-side.

·         The employee frequently is required to talk, hear and use hands to touch, handle, type, and write.

·         Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus and see colors.

·         The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.  The noise level can be elevated in the office when the employee is communicating with other employees or when other employees are communicating with each other and in the manufacturing areas of the plant. 

·         Flexible with working hours, work days, and overtime during the weekends, or week days as necessary; may be required to rotate shifts and work first, swing, or graveyard as manufacturing demands; must be willing to stay overtime without advance notice as necessary to get the job done.

·         Microsoft office: word, outlook, and excel is a must.

 

Equipment Used:  Computer, calculator, postage meter, fax/printer/scanner and telephone.

 

Provisions for Coverage: In the absence of the Quality Assurance Assistant/Tech I, Other Qa Techs and/or the Plant QA Coordinator shall perform duties.
