PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through regular reconciliation and review. This position will report to the Controller or Accounting Manager.

MAJOR AND ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish records of accounts and input journal entries into proper accounts.
  • Internal account reconciliation and ongoing maintenance of accounts.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems using current technology.
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change; manage the process of innovative change effectively.
  • Attend client, partner or vendor meetings to discuss bank opportunities; identify needs and evaluate business solution alternatives.
  • Present and explain proposals, reports, or finding to clients, partners or vendors and internal management.
  • Ensure funding processes protect the bank against unnecessary risk.
  • Perform quality assurance testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compliance - Assists in the Bank's compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Develop familiarity with all applicable federal and state banking rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to all applicable Bank policies and procedures.
  • Cooperate with banking Regulators and Auditors.

Interpersonal/Team Skills - Cultivate and maintain a professional image and rapport with customers, the public, co-workers, Regulators, Auditors, Bank Management and Directors.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to take direction and accept constructive feedback.
  • Keep appropriate parties informed of project status, problems, issues, etc.
  • Negotiate and attempt to resolve conflicts around projects or work assignments; communicate problems to manager as needed.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related degree.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Excellent organization skills, with emphasis on priorities and goal setting
  • Superior presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excel/Microsoft Office proficiency.

Preferred Experience/Skills
  • Knowledge of banking/financial services industry
  • 1 - 2 years' experience in accounting
  • 1 - 2 years' experience within financial services institution
