The Health Care Worker HCW shall perform a full range of Clinical Psychologist procedures on-site, within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Commanding Officer, using government furnished facilities, supplies and equipment. Workload occurs as a result of either scheduled or unscheduled requirements for care. The HCW is responsible for a full range of diagnostic examinations, the development of comprehensive treatment plans when indicated, delivery of treatment within the personnel and equipment capabilities of the treatment facility, provision of mandated medical surveillance and preventive services, and the quality and timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided. The HCW shall refer patients to staff specialists for consultation opinions and continuation of care and shall see the patients of other government staff health care providers who have been referred for consultation and treatment. The HCW's productivity is expected to be comparable to that of other Clinical Psychologists assigned to the same facility and authorized the same scope of practice.
Perform consultations, differential diagnoses, and treatment planning for all disorders defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (current edition) published by the American Psychiatric Association.
Work closely with clinical staff and/or base personnel regarding patient awareness of mental health wellness programs (addictions, stress management, group therapies).
Provide patient consultations requested by Naval Hospital staff health care providers within guidelines established by the Naval Hospital.
Perform clinical evaluations including administration and interpretation of psychological, neuropsychological, cognitive and personality tests, and provide clinical consultation regarding selection of psychological tests. May also be required to administer neuropsychological assessments and perform clinical evaluation and / or referral based on the neuropsychological assessment tool.
Perform mental behavioral health evaluations and provide therapy. Apply and oversee the application of psychological procedures and techniques in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating psychological and neuropsychological disorders. Perform individual and group therapy, behavior modification paradigms, biofeedback procedures, and hypnosis in treating psychological disorders, and in assisting individuals to achieve more effective personal in interpersonal adjustment..
Directly evaluate difficult and complex cases to determine appropriate placement in Inpatient/Outpatient care or referral to other agencies and to determine the appropriate types of individual/group interventions to be employed.
Communicate the results of the evaluations and participate in therapy program development and consultation with all levels of staff.
Provide professional assistance to the Substance and Alcohol rehabilitation Program (SARP) program, as requested.
Provide therapeutic treatment and evaluation of patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Combat Stress Disorders and Traumatic Brain Injury.
Provide psychological assessment and treatment of individuals confined in the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Brig, as requested.
Provide input to medical board determinations and administrative separations as requested.
To maintain continuity of services, the HCWs will work 40 hrs. a week.
The HCWs will be supervised by the Commanding Officer or designated government representative.
