Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Lab Manager and Medical Director, coordinate the quality and training aspects of decentralized testing (Point Of Care Testing).

Description
  • Responsible for all accountabilities of the Medical Technologist.
  • Maintain all records in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with the POC instruction of newly hired patient care personnel at orientation sessions and/or at the request of department heads.
  • Train the trainers in areas of testing.
  • Act as a resource when questions or problems arise.
  • Review and track with the appropriate management annual re-certification of personnel in POCT procedures. Communicate non-compliance to appropriate department head.
  • Communicate competency changes according to regulatory agencies to appropriate management.
  • Under the direction of the Lab Manager and Medical Director, develop, update and review policies and procedure manuals.
  • Coordinate the external proficiency testing program in all areas where POCT testing is performed.
  • Coordinate calibration, calibration verification and linearity studies according to established policies.
  • Review quality control data and patient logs according to policy and established schedules.
  • Coordinate the ordering of POC supplies as needed.
  • Troubleshoot POCT devices and procedures as needed.
  • Monitor and resolve problems with error and alarm logs.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with appropriate Nursing and Patient Care staff.
  • Participate on Hospital committees and attend meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Grade S 14:
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Minimum 3 years Clinical Experience in a Hospital.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate duties. Strong organizational, communication and problem solving skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated record and ability to perform in a team oriented environment by maintaining harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees. Must possess distinctive leadership qualities in coordinating personnel, monitoring and reporting on progress and situational decision making.
  • B.S. degree or higher in Medical Lab Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry (copy of degree or transcript required) and one year internship in ASCP program or other work experience accepted by ASCP, NCA, AACC, or ASM (copy of high school diploma or transcript required).
Grade S 16:
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
