Van Driver/Day Program Aide Full Time

As a Van Driver, provides safe and timely transportation to individuals with disabilities between their residences and Cape Abilities day program site. As a Day Program Aide, assists program participants in the areas of work, independent living, self-management within the community, and social and independent living skills development.


+ Ensures and safeguards Agency program participants' human dignity, rights, and liberties.

+ Attends training sessions, staff meetings and related programs, as scheduled.

+ Serves as mandated reported for suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect to Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC).

+ Establishes and maintains professional relationships with community contacts, colleagues, management, and State of Massachusetts and contract services staff.

+ As a Van Driver

+ Adheres to all applicable Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and Agency regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as state and local laws in the operation of vehicles.

+ Maintains consistent and clear communication with the Transportation Manager and other designated staff.

+ Provides safe and timely pick-up and drop-off of specified program participants, following routes, schedules, and procedures authorized by the Director of Transportation.

+ Assists program participants requiring assistance entering or leaving the vehicle; escorts participants requiring additional assistance to or from the vehicle.

+ Checks and responds to messages in a timely manner before beginning morning or afternoon routes.

+ Completes and submits all required paperwork including attendance sheets and vehicle checklists.

+ Maintains internal and external cleanliness of vehicle.

+ Ensures that snow and ice has been removed from assigned vehicle after a winter storm.

+ As a Day Program Aide

+ Assists with participant services in accordance with Day Habilitation regulations in the areas of independent living, self-management within the community, and social and independent living skills development.

+ Assist program participants in making and expressing choices based on assessments and other service need indicators.

+ Assists in providing community activities and supervises implementation of services created by program team.

+ Provides physical assistance to participants, as needed, including, but not limited to, toileting, transferring and feeding.

+ Adheres to all state day habilitation regulations and Agency policies and procedures.

+ Keeps management abreast of planned activities, as well as, and potential participant issues or needs which are not being met.

+ Implements behavior plans and/or protocols designed by the team and behavioral specialist.


+ Performs additional duties, as assigned.

+ High school diploma or equivalent required.

+ Prior experience providing direct care support and transportation services for individuals with disabilities preferred.

+ Must be able to respond appropriately to auditory stimulus without visual cues.

+ Ability to follow directions and read maps.

+ Must be able to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form with coworkers and supported individuals and read fluently.

+ Valid driver's license in the state of Massachusetts required.

+ Documented physical indicating fitness for job.

+ Successful completion of all state and Agency mandated trainings required upon hire.


+ No supervisory responsibility.


+ Ability to physically assist adults with disabilities when entering or exiting vehicles, and as needed during program activities.

+ Ability to physically intervene in instances of extreme behavior that might jeopardize safety of individuals supported and staff.

+ Ability to perform wheelchair securement protocols as needed.
