Technical Accounting Manager

Energy Company—Indianapolis, Indiana—$125k plus bonus based on personal & company performance

  • SEC and CPA required, construction experience preferred


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or equivalent required
  • Four to seven years relevant experience is required, which must include experience at a Big Four public accounting firm, preferably at a manager level; recent SEC reporting experience a plus
  • Experience with complex accounting transactions and technical GAAP research, including a thorough knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting standards
  • International entity exposure preferred
  • Microsoft-based operating systems, Excel, Word, PowerPoint required
  • Experience with XBRL is preferred


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform technical accounting research related to complex accounting transactions and document the company’s position in comprehensive, clear and concise technical accounting memos.
  • Articulate and educate team members in finance and other departments with respect to the impact of complex accounting transactions, adopted accounting policies, new standards and other technical matters.
  • Determine the implications of new accounting standards on the company and take a leading role in the associated implementation projects.
  • Collaborate with multiple key stakeholders in the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statement filings with the SEC (10-K, 10-Q, 11-K, etc.), including XBRL compliance, and other statutory reporting requirements. Provide input, as required, in support of the quarterly earnings release process.
  • Prepare monthly consolidated cash flow statement.
  • Perform other accounting functions, as needed, including equity accounting, derivatives, investments and pension.
  • Provide input for the planning and forecasting process in areas of responsibility.
  • Accountable for all related SOX narratives and SOX controls in areas of responsibility.
  • Provide all related external and internal audit support in areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for special projects and other departmental duties as necessary.
  • Identify and evaluate process improvement and/or course correction/course alignment opportunities.
