Summary:   

The Senior Strategic Planner (SSP) will provide strategic leadership to assigned accounts, selling through 

strategic visions and programs to clients.  As the owner of consumer understanding, the SSP will be able to 

synthesize learning into evocative consumer positioning and strategies to guide creative 

development.  Additionally, the SSP will be designated as the subject matter expert in a particular area and on 

an as needed basis will work on other accounts that require your particular subject matter expertise.  The ideal 

background for this position is one in which the person has acquired a solid track record of innovative strategic 

thinking that has driven positive business results.    

Specific Responsibilities include: 

▪ Be the primary, day‐to‐day contact for all matters of strategy and planning, including marketing 

▪ Envision, create and own client presentations 

▪ Partner with Account and Creative teams to gain client approval to recommended strategic direction 

▪ Participate in new business pitches  

▪ Take the leadership role in discovering and articulating differentiating customer insights and translating 

them into strategic platforms 

▪ Developing summaries of key learning and implications on how to position the brand or other brand 

building ideas 

▪ Helping assess competitive strategies 

▪ Interpreting cultural and social trends relevant to client business 

▪ Develop, direct and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research that answers key questions and 

provides fodder for insight identification 

▪ Writing conceptual concepts expressing positioning/messaging ideas and liaison with creative for input 

▪ Work cross‐functionally within the agency to ensure the successful and innovative execution of 

approved strategies 

▪ Mentor junior strategists  

SKILLS REQUIRED: 

▪ Strong background in integrating quantitative learning with qualitative in the development of consumer 

communication strategies 

▪ Ability to synthesize information from various sources to create an actionable point of view and direction for 

a project  

▪ Ability to convert strategic plans into actionable ones  

▪ Highly resourceful, with strong research skills and a working knowledge of marketing analytics  

▪ Ability to create effective & persuasive client presentations in PowerPoint  & Keynote  

▪ Proactive and able to work independently  

▪ Highly creative, with first‐rate conceptual skills  

▪ Exceptional visual, oral and written communications skills; a captivating presenter  

▪ Exceptional listening skills.
