Job Description
About the Team:
This is a pivotal time to join the Innovation Labs team at AppDynamics. We are a small, closs-knit, fast moving, and highly adaptable team with expertise in Product Development, Business Analysis, Research and Design. Our team charter is to drive business critical growth, organic innovation, and culture at AppDynamics. We work across the organization to form coalitions that solve big problems and address new opportunities. As part of Cisco, we help to shape a critical facet of their technology portfolio.

About the Role:
"You are a multidisciplinary Designer; your role is to be the visual storyteller and creative force on our cross-functional team. This position best suits a self-starter who can own their work, be graceful under time pressure, work closely with an array of partners, and most of all thrive in a discovery-driven environment. We are constantly learning as we go and you'll have the opportunity to learn with us—whether that's new domains, new skills, or new tools.

Your mission is the emotional part—to turn complex concepts, quantitative and qualitative data sets, anecdotes, workshops, and communications into visually rich, moving story artifacts that range from presentations and videos to event collateral. We're looking for a designer with a range of skills but strength in communication design and data visualization. Your portfolio should demonstrate diverse styles and adaptability, with proven experience and examples from past work.

As a Designer on the Innovation Labs team you will:
  • Create materials such as presentation decks, one pagers, case studies, and reports to clearly and evocatively communicate insights and opportunities
  • From diverse and complex data sets, create beautiful data visualizations that inform, facilitate exploration, and spur curiosity
  • As needed, create memorable event collateral such as signage, identity systems, and swag
  • Champion stylistic exploration and innovation while assuring clarity and timely project completion
  • Collaborate deftly with business analysts, product leaders, researchers, sales people, engineers, and other designers"
About You:
You are collaborative. You invite colleagues into your process early and often, relishing opportunities to work side by side. You welcome the opportunity to meet new people and listen deeply to others' viewpoints. In a time-sensitive, fluid working environment, you are adept at rapid feedback and maintain positivity during changes of direction. Big data sets don't scare you—you see the narratives in them—in fact you can turn anything into a visual narrative. You are hungry to learn new skills, tools, and domains. You are experimental and ok making mistakes when out of your comfort zone.

You are logical and thoughtful about your approach to solving design problems. No pixel is too small—flawless execution is everything to you. This isn't your first rodeo, so you can own projects from start to finish while following consistent processes and time management best practices. You have strong design principles, knowledge, and understanding of what it takes to design for multiple channels. You are extremely comfortable with Adobe Creative Suite, Powerpoint, Keynote, and working from spreadsheets.

What will help you succeed in this role:
  • Some experience creating event collateral
  • Cross-functional focus

Minimum Requirements:
  • Excellent graphic design skills (layout, typography)
  • Excellent data visualization skills (clarity, concision, impact)
  • Excellent communication design skills (narrative, voice, tone)
  • Excellent creative tools skills (Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Powerpoint)
