Director, Quality & Regulatory

The Director of Quality & Regulatory manage all tasks related to quality and safety of raw materials, finished products, packaging materials, ingredients, and processing methods. This role must ensure that all good practices are followed.

What You'll Do

  • Provides vision and leadership for the Research & Development department and determines quality objectives and links those objectives to company objectives
  • Oversees monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meets the quality and safety standards
  • Ensures compliance with government regulatory agencies and third-party audits
  • Reviews and recommends disposition of held raw material, cannabis waste, WIP and finished products
  • Educates and instructs personnel on QC testing, equipment and general sanitation, as well as good housekeeping practices - ensuring these procedures are continuously maintained
  • Communicates to management when critical quality issues arise
  • Maintains quality through internal and external inspection of raw materials purchased
  • Coordinates with production, cultivation and other support departments on quality issues, and document corrective actions
  • Oversees plant(s) compliance and interactions with SQF Certification Body (or other products)

What You Have

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a Background Check through the SJPD
  • Bachelor Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, and/or Food Industry Management from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred
  • 5-7 years demonstrated successful management experience in food/cosmetic/beverage production industry, quality control & food safety
  • In depth knowledge of food manufacturing best practices, food production, safety and quality regulations (FDA, FDCA, FSMA, HAACP, GMPs, SOPs, Audits), regulatory requirements, and plant quality procedures
  • Knowledgeable about all food/cosmetic safety standards that are customary within the food/cosmetic industry and mandated by government regulations
  • Ability to generate efficient and productive value from quality control team
  • Operational knowledge of food safety standards, regulations and compliance, OSHA, technical certifications and training, along with food manufacturing experience
  • Ability to empower the workforce and build strong teams through hiring, developing, evaluating, training, coaching and succession planning
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to conduct internal audits of facilities on an annual basis or as may be required
  • Must be able to travel to facility locations as needed
