Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician performs and documents laboratory analyses and tests. Prepares samples, sets-up instruments, runs tests and reads, interprets and releases results in accordance with good laboratory practices with minimal supervision. Responsible for maintenance, calibration and functional testing of laboratory equipment. Utilizes equipment and maintains laboratory in orderly fashion according to established safety standards. The Laboratory Technician works closely with and alongside our Histology Technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use automated equipment and computerized instruments
- Prepares tissue for specimen processing as well as creating gross descriptions and dictation according to grossing protocols.
- Accessions clinical information using Pathology reporting software.
- Use automated equipment and computerized instruments; coverslip slides
- File tissue blocks and slides
- Assist with tests or experiments, recording results, keeping logs and sorting through materials used in laboratory processes
- Assemble various types of laboratory equipment, sterilizing them when necessary
- Use automated equipment and computerized instruments

Education/Experience
- Bachelors degree desired in a laboratory science or medical, laboratory technology, or a minimum of an associate of science obtained from an accredited institution.
- Previous laboratory work setting experience preferred.
