Technician III - Stem Cell Processing Cord Tissue

We have an immediate opening for a Technician III - Stem Cell Processing Cord Tissue.
Purpose: To process the once in a lifetime cord tissue samples that are received at CBR Tucson, ensuring that the samples are treated with the highest regard for quality and efficiency. Provide guidance and assists with training processing staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include mastery and performance of tasks described in the Cord Tissue Processing Technician Job Description (CBR-JD-CT-00002), the Cord Tissue Specialist Job Description (CBR-JD-CT-00003), and the following; other duties may be assigned:
  • Process cord tissue samples or fabricate batches at workstations trained, which may include one or more of the following: Cord Tissue Preparation, Cord Tissue Freezing and Storage, AlamarBlue Assay, Pre-filled Cryovial Fabrication, and Cryosheath Fabrication.
  • Maintain certifications at all workstations trained.
  • Adhere to guidelines set forth by the CBR Safety Program, understand job hazard analysis concerns, and communicate safety issues to the applicable Safety Representative.
  • Communicate deviations from procedures, anomalies, and abnormalities to responsible parties (Supervisor, Management, Department, etc.).
  • Perform all assigned duties in compliance with internal policies, processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as external regulations as determined by regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for remaining current in all training.
  • Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Audit, verify, and maintain accurate records for each sample.
  • Maintain donor, client, and employee confidentiality.
  • Evaluate disposables and equipment for non-conformities and notify responsible parties (QC, Supervisor, and/or Management).
  • Perform daily department startup and shutdown checklist and documentation.
  • Perform general lab cleaning and maintenance.
  • Participate in department projects as needed.
  • Able to take clear direction, work independently and complete tasks by end of shift. Eligible to be a mentor at the discretion of management and participates in all aspects of the Mentor Program when mentor role is assigned.
  • Provide assistance to non-CT trained Supervisors when a CT Supervisor is not available.
  • Collaborate on document changes (SOP’s, WI’s, and forms) as needed.
  • Function as department point of contact when scheduled.
  • Leads multiple department projects/ teams.
  • Generate IRs and service tickets to capture deviations and non-conformities.
  • Provide assistance to the processing staff by answering questions and standing in for other technicians at workstations.
  • Involved with and/or leads specialty teams (ie. Safety Team, document representative, quality projects, data tracking).
  • Cross-trained in other departments at the discretion of management. Create/Revise controlled documents in Master Control.
  • Possesses in depth understanding of equipment and processes to perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Determines course of action for process exception scenarios and alerts supervisors and management.
  • Performs and understands workstation/department specific override procedures.
Education and/or Experience:
  • A four year or Associate's degree in a Laboratory Science or MLT/CLT;
  • Two years of experience working at CBR with one year experience as a Processing Technician/Specialist; and/or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Computer Skills:
  • Ability to accurately transcribe data from electronic or paper records to a computer database.
  • Basic knowledge of common computer software such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Google Suite.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience in guiding or mentoring junior staff
  • Experience in leading cross-departmental team projects and/or special duties.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with conflict in productive and professional manner. Contributes to positive environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Responds effectively to clear directions and follows set procedures. Solves immediate problems, escalating where appropriate. Sees individual tasks through to completion.
Other Qualifications
  • The employee is regularly required to perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time.
