HR Manager

Job Purpose

The HR Manager is responsible for providing HR leadership in order to enable growth, organizational effectiveness and team member engagement.  The position serves as a consultant to leaders as well as a partner to team members (employees) for an assigned client group in the Western part of the US including a manufacturing facility in Tolleson and several west coast Retail Business Units (RBUs). The successful HR Manager will provide support and leadership in the areas of (1) talent acquisition; (2) organization capability & talent development; (3) culture nurturing and change management; and (4) HR process improvement.  The HR manager must understand business practices and processes and continuously improve their level of business literacy regarding the company’s operations, finances, mid-range and long-term plans as well as our culture and competitive environment. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition

  • Partner with business leaders to identify talent needs and develop recruiting and workforce staffing plans
  • Oversee new hire recruiting & selection processes for assigned client groups
  • Lead and coordinate new team member onboarding and orientation processes
  • Support client groups (manufacturing centers and RBUs) when contract or temporary hiring is necessary

Talent and Organization Capability Development

  • Champion the Goal Setting & Review (GS&R) process; ensure that all team members have defined goals and metrics
  • Support individual, team and leader development as needed
  • Assess training & development needs for teams and individuals.  Partner with Education & Skill Dev team to suggest low cost training & development solutions
  • Create/maintain current job descriptions for all roles
  • Ensure organizational charts are accurately maintained
  • Support the Annual Review Planning (ARP) process, including annual merit and incentive processes
  • Facilitate co-worker stay and exit interviews and communicate/apply learnings
  • Assist with coordination of required annual compliance training (Harassment, Security, other)
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning

Culture & Change Management

  • Coach team members and leaders in the behaviors expected to support strategy and our Cal Closets Credo
  • Provide leadership and support for the annual Team NPS survey process (engagement) and champion related action plan development/tracking
  • Create and manage HR communications
  • Partner with management to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention. 
  • Proactively prevent and actively manage team member (employee) relations issues, including fair and consistent application of policies and disciplinary actions
  • Conduct thorough and effective investigations and documented corrective action plans as needed
  • Provide consultation and guidance for managers and team members on company policies and processes
  • Establish programs and coach managers on appropriate team member recognition programs (service anniversaries, birthdays, other peer and manager recognition, attendance awards, etc.)
  • Lead and support company-sponsored programs & projects and provide appropriate change management support as necessary to help team members absorb and accept changes (focus groups, feedback loops, communication, recognition, etc.)

 

HR Cost Management, Processes and Metrics

  • Provide oversight for each assigned client site’s maintenance of team member (employee) records
  • Provide routine reporting on key HR metrics
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all legal and procedural requirements; conduct routine compliance audits and implement corrective actions
  • Actively look for and implement actions to reduce HR costs and improve efficiency
  • Respond to requests for information by various entities (Finance, Legal, outside compliance, etc.)
  • Support HR Department effectiveness by establishing standardized, documented, sustainable processes for routine transactions and leveraging manager/team member self-service opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with all HR colleagues to establish and maintain standardized HR processes and optimize HR effectiveness
  • Provide seamless collaboration with shared services in areas such as payroll and legal support
  • Ensure proper management, compliance and communication of safety and Workers Compensation related matters
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to employment law, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance, partnering with the legal department as needed/required.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of HR experience
  • Bachelor's degree required with PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Confidence in communication – verbally, written, large groups, one on one
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others
  • Professional integrity and the ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidential information
  • A bias for customer service and action
  • Creative, analytic and resourceful
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Highly organized; strong time and project management skills and abilities
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of Human Resource practices in recruitment, organization development, policy administration, benefits, training and team-member relations
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment regulations, and record keeping requirements; including best practices in the field (CA law expertise a bonus)
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with other HR software strongly desired
  • 15-20% travel time estimated

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk or hear. The team member is frequently required to bend; lift 10 lbs.; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
