CalWest's client school, Mirman School, is seeking an Associate Teacher for their lower elementary school. JOB SUMMARY:                      

Mirman School, located in Los Angeles, CA is looking for a full-time Early Elementary Grade Associate Teacher. The Associate Teacher will work alongside the Lead Teacher to create a flexible and dynamic elementary classroom environment and program favorable to learning and personal growth for highly gifted children; establish effective rapport with students, parents, and colleagues; nurture passions and talents of students; develop each child’s skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed in a strong foundation for elementary grade education in accordance with each student’s ability; collaborate and partner with colleagues and administration to build, assess, and integrate curriculum across disciplines; foster student success and well-being beyond their classroom.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

●     Utilize best instructional practices, methods, materials, and technology

●     Cultivate and model a respectful, safe, creative, and invigorating classroom

●     Evaluate student work, using both formative and summative assessments, benchmarks and other assessments to guide instructional planning and promote student success

●     Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers throughout all grade levels on campus to strengthen community and student experience

●     Relate well to students, parents, and staff

●     Demonstrate a strong understanding of the academic, social, and emotional development of highly gifted children

●     Work effectively with Head of Lower School, lead teacher, and other faculty members

●     Demonstrate effective use of classroom materials and technology to enhance learning

●     Strong understanding of independent school methods and the ability to effectively integrate best practices of NAIS and CAIS

●     Provide coverage for lead teacher in their absence

●     Effective use of Google Suite and other required school technology. Technologically literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills.

●     Demonstrate a strong understanding and usage of multiple forms of assessment in informing and driving instruction

●     Demonstrates culturally competent skills in educational program design and delivery

●     Demonstrate ability to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages; including a passion for teaching and working with students from all communities

●     Exhibit the qualities of an adult learner dedicated to their professional growth

●     Provide leadership and serve as a mentor

●     Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school

●     Exhibit a sense of humor and commitment, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective

●     Demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated collegiality

●     Demonstrate excellent organization, time management, and follow-through skills

●     Exhibit the ability to work as part of a team

QUALIFICATIONS:

●     Bachelor's degree in a related field (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university

●     Master’s degree in education preferred

●     1-3 years of teaching experience in a classroom

●     Independent school experience preferred

●     Experience with working with highly gifted children preferred

●     Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, Responsive Classroom, and conceptual based math pedagogy preferred

●     Appropriately credentialed

●     Able to pass state and federal background checks

●     Clear TB and criminal background check upon hire
