Job Description

CCHS is recruiting full-time physicians (MD/DO) to offer family or internal medicine and primary care services.  This is a great opportunity to join the health care staff of a progressive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH).  CCHS is a proactive healthcare system that approaches service delivery with courage and creativity.  We offer support and flexibility to providers and staff as they champion care innovation to meet the ever-evolving needs of our communities.  Our providers and staff are proud and fearless healthcare professionals who truly make an impact and gain as much as they give in their work.

CCHS is comprised of six community-based health centers and six school-based health centers all within Kanawha County.  Four of our health centers have on-site pharmacy and two have on-site dental services.  All sites have access to behavioral health services.  Additionally, CCHS offers integrated Medication Assisted Treatment to address the needs of those patients struggling with addiction and striving for recovery.

CCHS provides fully integrated primary care services with a focus on whole-patient care.  Our clinics strive to meet the needs of underserved communities through inter-professional collaborative care, wherein each clinic has a diverse staff including primary care providers, behavioral health providers, medical support staff, care coordinators, and patient service representatives.  Our inter-professional teams work effectively to support and serve many aspects of our patient population’s treatment needs.  When referral to specialty care is appropriate, our teams work effectively to support patients through referral processes and support them until accessing care.

Underserved and rural populations often face barriers to psychiatric, behavioral health, dental, and pharmacy services.  Having integrated psychiatry, behavioral health, dental, and pharmacy services accessible in the same halls as primary care services, supports both patients and physicians as they all work together to promote whole-person health and wellness.  With direct access to these varied services, our patients are able to access the care needed to reestablish stability and improve their functioning and quality of life.

Physicians at CCHS benefit from this care model and avoid many of the professional frustrations and difficulties found in more siloed treatment settings.  Our collaborative care approach reduces professional isolation, promotes shared ideas and goals, and yields successful outcomes for both patients and their care teams.  As part of your involvement in collaborative patient care, you will have the opportunity to participate in regular inter-professional activities including daily consultations, weekly team huddles, monthly clinic meetings, operations and systems planning, and team-based projects in regular staff meetings and workgroup sessions.

CCHS is a uniquely innovative, creative, and flexible health system where providers are supported and encouraged to build diverse clinical careers, that support the overarching mission of improving the health and wellness of our communities.  We are supportive of professional development and encourage involvement in professional activities including association membership, conference participation, and career-long learning and competency development.  The opportunity to participate in ECHO consultations and trainings on topics of your interest is also available.  CCHS is the sponsoring agency for the Area Health Education Center and, as such, provides clinical preceptorships for health profession students (medical, nursing, psychology, and pharmacy).  Physicians have the opportunity, if interested, to work with inter-professional students and trainees.

We would be remiss to not mention the new dynamic healthcare solutions that we have designed and executed in response to the current pandemic.  Our staff and providers have collaborated with and advised our administrative leaders to identify specific care needs and response protocols in context to COVID-19 screening, testing, and treatment; and have explored how these pandemic response plans impact other existing healthcare needs, services, and practices.  Because of the hard work of CCHS’ care teams, our patients have continued to maintain access quality whole-patient care in a newly designed approach to integrated care including a blend of telehealth and safe in-person services.  We are extremely proud of our staff and providers for courageously evolving their roles, practices, and routines to provide safe care to our patients and to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment for providers and staff working in our health centers.  Provider and staff burnout and professional support has been a hallmark of CCHS’ pandemic response plan.  We are looking forward to integrating new ideas from newly hired providers and staff as we move into the future of healthcare in this challenging moment.
