5G Senior Software Engineer

CTI is seeking a seeking a senior software engineer, with specialized knowledge in 5G, and related protocols, to apply a deep technical knowledge of the subject across a number of related programs. Joining CTI at this stage will be an

opportunity to drive and shape the company's solutions around 5G. Both as an individual contributor and a leader, you will define, prototype, and field significant solutions that leverage 5G, and related protocols, to transmit data in challenging environments. The candidate will have an opportunity to "walk the full stack" from the edge to the cloud. To support these efforts, you will have the opportunity to conduct research to inform decisions and make recommendations on the feasibility of new concepts for defense and commercial applications.

-Provide 5G expertise and technical skills to related programs

-Architect, design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing software systems and applications

-Researches, creates proofs of concept, and introduces new technologies to the team

-Designs and creates new technologies that are widely used either by internal or external teams

-Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements

-Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements

-Identify and evaluate new technologies for implementation that improve the stability, performance, and quality of the multiple projects and teams.

-Analyze code to find causes of errors/inefficiency and revise software as needed

-Adjusts the team processes, listening to feedback and guiding the team through the changes

-Leads the technical excellence of the system and creates plans to mitigate outages

-Lead and mentor other engineers in meeting technical requirements

-Makes an impact on the whole technical organization


  • Ability to obtain/retain a security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • 12+ years of experience in programming, engineering, or related work
  • Proficient with software-defined wireless protocol processing
  • Proficient in Java, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, Rust, and other programming languages
  • Version control systems, such as Git
  • Build tools, such as Gradle, Maven, Pipenv, npm, grunt, etc
  • Container tools such as Docker, containerd, podman, etc
  • CICD tools and processes
  • Considerable understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment, and continuous monitoring
  • Experience driving technical decisions, including the ability to break down problems, identify solutions, and communicate the process and conclusions to an engineering team and senior leadership
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently and collaborate within a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively via multiple mediums and with management, co-workers, and customers, both technical and non-technical
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers to meet a project's technical goals
  • Ability to write clean code and leverage best practices for implementation, documentation, and testing
  • Experience architecting software and distributed infrastructure, including thoroughly documenting all phases of design to convey concepts to leadership, the team(s) implementing the design, and end users
  • Experience as significant technical contributor and technical leader for delivered products (or significant features of a product)

  • Experience with relational and key value data stores, such as PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, or Redis
  • Graphic and visualization development experience with Vulcan, OpenGL/GLES, WebGL, Metal, DirectX, d3, three.js, a-frame, etc
  • Experience with NASA WorldWind, CesiumJS, MapboxGL, MapLibre, MQTT, DDS, Protocol Buffers, Avro
  • Domain experience with cellular protocols, wireless protocols, software defined radios, GNU Radio, Redhawk, electronic warfare, signals processing/intelligence, and/or geospatial analytics/data/visualization
