Position Title:  Education & Workforce Development Specialist – Manufacturing/Engineering

Job Description: Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Experiential STEM Education, the Education & Workforce Development Specialist will be responsible for providing hands-on/minds-on manufacturing-themed STEM student programming, manufacturing career awareness activities and programs, STEM educator professional development, and workforce development-related activities in virtual and classroom formats.

This position will support programming in New London/Groton and New Haven/Bridgeport areas. In addition, this position will also be required to be at CCAT locations in East Hartford for educational delivery and meetings.

This is a part-time, contracted position through August 31, 2021 for up to 20 hours per week with the possibility of extension based on program funding.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  

  • Assist in the development and lead the delivery of contextual, hands-on and virtual manufacturing/ engineering-related educational programs for students in grades 4-16
  • Assist in supporting manufacturing career awareness and engagement activities for middle and high school students and job seekers with a special focus on populations that are currently underrepresented in manufacturing
  • Assist in the support of online learning environments and social media platforms
  • Assist in the development and administration of program evaluation tools
  • Assist in planning and delivery of teacher training workshops to maximize engagement and implementation within face-to-face and distance learning classrooms
  • Assist in program/event coordination and logistics including acquisition and management of program supplies and materials
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of marketing and outreach materials to students, families, educators and partners as assigned.

Job Requirements

·       Education: A college degree in one of the following content areas is required: Engineering; Manufacturing Technologies; Science or Technology Education teaching certification (middle or high school teacher preparation program).

·       Background:  Experience working with middle and/or high school students in one or more of the following content areas: manufacturing, engineering, robotics/programming, alternative energy, physical sciences is preferred.

·       Skills: Excellent computer, organizational, and communication skills. Passion for promoting future STEM and manufacturing/engineering careers. Flexible, able to work independently, quick learner. Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills. Knowledge of SolidWorks (or equivalent), CNC manufacturing, robotics/programming, 3D printing, alternative energy, aerospace/ engineering, or Next Generation Science Standards a plus. Bilingual preferred. Citizenship requirements must meet export control regulations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Continually communicates with individuals and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasionally moves equipment for various classrooms and event needs. Occasionally works in varying conditions. Generally moderate noise environment (business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Travel:  Access to reliable transportation for occasional travel through CT (mileage reimbursement provided).
