Program Manager, Energy Storage Systems (ESS)

We are looking for a Program Manager, ESS who will play a crucial role in bringing about the proliferation of energy storage through their coordination and management of suppliers and partners developing battery projects originated by CPower. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all attributes of on-schedule deployment of battery energy storage projects by interfacing with suppliers and development partners, coordinating and tracking schedules and deliverables, and supporting the sales team to coordinate with customers and manage expectations throughout the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of energy storage assets. Successful energy storage deployments will require the Program Manager to orchestrate the execution of a variety of deliverables including utility interconnection filings, permit filings, design documentation, customer approvals, financing approvals, and supplier deliverables, by coordinating across internal and external delivery resources.
The successful candidate is passionate about helping to build a sustainable, distributed energy grid, has U.S. energy markets knowledge and experience, and familiarity with energy storage and/or distributed/renewable generation Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC). They excel in the “white-space” and are enthusiastic about helping to build upon the early successes of a burgeoning business situated within an established and respected energy solutions company. Our focused team is dedicated to building a high-performing and successful energy storage business and looking for someone motivated to be a catalyst for our accelerated growth.
This is a remote position with a preference for candidates located in the Northeastern or Mid-Atlantic U.S., and options to work from CPower’s Eastern U.S. offices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Project manage all aspects necessary to design, permit, build, and interconnect Energy Storage Assets at customer sites, leveraging established external partnerships. This includes:
- Coordination of schedules, milestone tracking and verification of deliverables for dozens of concurrent active projects with external development and construction partners
- Identifying risks, issues, obstacles, and recommending and executing mitigation and resolution plans
- Continually assessing and managing development partner and supplier performance and business relationship health, while driving projects toward successful on-time delivery
- Reporting on project progress to stakeholders including CPower management, sales executives, and customers
- Serving as the primary point of contact for external development partners throughout the energy storage system design, development, and build process.
- Remain the primary point of contact for development partners to support implementation related issues, routing them to the appropriate entity(s) for resolution.
- Track and manage partner contracts and contractual obligations
- Maintain key supplier, contractor, and partner relationships in the energy storage and distributed energy resource space to enable effective management of partners and project execution
Requirements
- BA/BS required in related field, Electrical Engineering preferred.
- 5+ years demonstrated project management experience.
- Experience with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction of commercial/industrial-scale distributed energy assets such as energy storage, photovoltaics, fuel cells, CHP, co-generation, etc.
- Experience managing and coordinating contractors and suppliers for large construction projects
- General knowledge of Local and Regional permitting processes and requirements for electrical projects and experienced in reading electrical drawings.
- Electrical Utility Interconnection filing and approval processes for distributed energy resources knowledge/experience a plus.
- U.S. Electric industry experience/knowledge a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, enjoys building and takes pride in innovating to address complex challenges.
- Track record of taking initiative to achieve goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and achieve results.
- Strong communication skills – written, verbal, and external facing.
- Is self-directed and works well in whitespace.
- Change management experience is a plus.
