Job Description
Product Development Scientist III ProteinThe Product Development Scientist will have the following duties and responsibilities:With guidance, execute medium to high complexity product and process development activities from concept to commercialization. Accurately identifies project requirements applying the right production capability, ingredients, formulation, and design to match customer needs, product specifications, and financial targetsConducting internal sensory evaluations, product applications, and shelf life / stress testing to determine acceptability of prototypes and competitive products for customers and consumersFollow established guidelines and protocol, scientific approach and statistical analysis in product development, plant trials, plant startups, sensory, shelf-life stability studies, capability studies, and specifications developmentProvide technical support to resolve medium to high complexity production and quality issues, identifying root cause, develop and implement solutions including training QA / Operations personnel on findings within assigned product categorySupport an environment that fosters innovation by continually introducing ideas and product concepts for new products, quality improvements, and productivity and facilitate calculated risk takingSupport the development and implementation of raw material strategy in collaboration with supply chain group and external vendors for differentiated new product performance and quality or cost reductionWith guidance, develop raw material strategy in collaboration with supply chain group and external vendors for differentiated new product performance and qualityProvide technical and business risk assessment / perspectives related to new product development and technical brand stewardship activitiesLeads, trains and mentors technicians. Provides technical advice to others within specialtyTechnical Requirements:Bachelor s degree in Food Science, Chemical/Food/Biological/Mechanical or related field with 4 years food product and/or process development and project management experience from concept through commercialization OR M.S. Food Science, Chemical/Food/Biological/Mechanical Engineer or related field with 2 years food product and/or process development from concept through commercialization OR PhD Food Science, Chemical/Food/Biological/Mechanical Engineer or related fieldDemonstrated experience to independently apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques, interpret data through sound experimental design and statistical analysisDemonstrated experience in leading multiple high complexity projects within assigned product category in a cross functional environment while delivering significant resultsSolid understanding of food systems, ingredients, packaging, and processing interactions, experimental design and statistical analysisDemonstrated experience to deal with ambiguity and can comfortably manage risks, changing priorities, and uncertaintyStrong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across functions and influence both above and below levelProficient project management skillsSolid PC proficiency (Excel, Word, database, statistical software) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing. Proficient with relevant software tools (e.g., PLM, etc.)Ability to use database, presentation and project management software beneficialTravels regularly, up to 30%.
