Job Summary
The Licensed Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design of power distribution systems, lighting, and low-voltage systems for our building design projects as well as the production of all plans and specifications associated with that design. This position is also responsible for construction phase services.
Core Job Duties
Design electrical systems for building design projects
Make site visits to document existing systems and gather existing owner documentation
Develop conceptual designs, selects equipment, performs calculations, and prepares design drawings and specifications
Complete construction phase services such as submittal reviews, periodic site visits, and punch lists
Interact closely with architects, interior designers, mechanical engineers, and plumbing engineers
Work with a design team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans
Use computer-assisted design software to create preliminary and detailed drawings
Perform building condition evaluations and prepares reports
Electric utility and code enforcement official coordination
Perform energy code compliance analysis using ComCheck software
Mentor less experienced staff
Work with junior staff for document production support
Assist with preparation of proposals
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Proficient with using lighting design software such as Lithonia Visual or similar
Demonstrates knowledge of applicable Codes and Standards (NEC, NFPA 101, NFPA 72, etc.)
Proficient with ComCheck software
Must be proficient with Revit and/or AutoCAD
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent technical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with 5+ years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and/or industrial buildings
Licensed Professional Engineer in the state in which the applicant applies, or the applicant will immediately apply for a P.E. license in that state
Experience designing power distribution systems, including panelboards, switchboards, overcurrent protection, transformers, generators, etc.
Experience with interior and exterior lighting design
Experience with fire alarm, access control, public address, phone/data, and other low-voltage systems design
