The Position
The General Accountant Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.
- Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues, expenses and writes narrative reports explaining findings.
- Reports organization's finances to management and offers suggestions about resource utilization, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
- Ensures completeness and accuracy of all accounts receivable and accounts payable database and files.
- Payroll processing and related reporting.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
- Processes accounts payable invoices for payment by matching and verifying with purchase order, requisition and packing slips.
- Ensures accurate processing to accounts in compliance with appropriate polices and procedures, with correct application of taxes.
- Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules. Determines proper handling of financial transactions.
- Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures. Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
- Devises and implements system for general accounting.
- Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
- Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation.
- Prepare monthly closings, monthly reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts.
- Reconcile intercompany accounts between branches.
- Assist with year-end closings.
- Monitor and resolve bank issues including fee anomalies and check differences.
- Review and process expense reports.
- Assist with preparation and coordination of the audit process.
- Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
- Any other related functions as necessary
Requirements and Skills
- B.S. in Accounting/Finance
- 3-5 years’ experience in accounting cycles
- Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies and procedures that is reflective of the financial services industry.
- Payroll processing (desirable)
- Proficient in MS Office
- Proficient in QuickBooks
- Bilingual (desirable)
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Flexible and adaptability; readily adapts to change, systems or methods
- Professional oral and written communication skills
- Strong Analytical and research skills.
- A team player with a helpful attitude.
Working Conditions/ Physical Activity:
- Working a regular shift from Monday to Friday, with occasional extended hours.
- Night shifts and weekends might be required
- The employee may occasionally lift and move materials up to 15 pounds
