Job Description

GA-CCRi is looking for a senior software engineer grounded in the full software lifecycle, from architecture and design through coding, testing, documentation, deployment, and support/maintenance. Our engineers take cutting-edge machine learning research and build reliable products. You'll help integrate machine-learning analytics, streaming data processing pipelines, and appealing user interfaces into end-to-end mission systems. These tools will be used to provide real-time situational awareness and expose advanced analytics to end users.

As a senior engineer, you will be expected to balance technical responsibilities (design and development) with team responsibilities (technical planning, roadmaps, ticket creation, delegation, and mentorship). You’ll likely conduct demos and presentations, and will be expected to contribute to the software engineering culture and ecosystem at GA-CCRi, across projects, through opportunities like design reviews and shared learning opportunities.

Due to the nature of our work being highly collaborative, this role will be primarily on-site at our office in Charlottesville, VA. Our hybrid policy, available for this role, includes up to one day a week WFH and a minimum of 32 hours on-site, with core hours set by individual teams. We’d really love to have dedicated, team-oriented engineers who are willing to learn and join the team!

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
  • At least 5 additional years of professional software development experience
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Additional preference will be given to candidates with an active TS security clearance

We’re looking for someone in this role who is:

  • Curious and excited to learn new technologies
  • Able to coordinate a small team of engineers
  • Excited about understanding our customer’s needs and mission
  • In-depth experience with at least one server-side language such as: Scala, Java, Go, Python, or others
  • In-depth experience with database technologies, such as: PostgreSQL, MySQL, or others
  • Experienced with full software lifecycle development
  • Able to build and deploy working prototypes
  • Comfortable working with Linux systems on a daily basis
  • Comfortable with version control and git

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Agile software development
  • AWS infrastructure and tooling
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Distributed analytics and processing
  • Geo-spatial data and analytics
  • Cloud technologies such as: Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Accumulo, Storm
  • Deployment technologies such as: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm
  • Additional preference will be given to candidates with an active TS security clearance

The expected base salary range for this position is $128,000 - $210,000 per year. Insurance, bonus opportunities, retirement and benefits are in addition to annual base pay.

GA-CCRi maintains and deploys production systems that are in use by hundreds of analysts on a daily basis. We build and develop best-in-class air and maritime awareness capabilities, as well as image-based object recognition pipelines. Our systems process data from numerous streaming feeds where we fuse observations together to form the best possible live view of what’s where in the sky, in the sea, or on the ground. We perform additional in-stream analytics to determine not just where something is, but what it is, and what it’s doing. We also expose the streams and data history in our own user-facing browser-based application for visualization and analysis of this complex, high-volume data picture in a meaningful and performant manner.
