Job Description
Opto-Mechanical Engineer
- As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer, you will help design, develop, and integrate state of the art precision instrumentation for metrology, lithography, and imaging.
- You will be part of a team exploring new optical concepts producing research tools and prototypes integrating elements such as lasers, polarization optics, precision mechanisms, motion control, advanced sensors, and software.
- You may be part of multiple cross-functional teams with specialists from many areas including electronics, mechanics, optics, firmware, and software.
- We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, are comfortable working in new and under-defined technology areas, and are able to drive a concept into a functioning hardware system.
- We are looking for a hands-on builder of opto-mechanical systems that can deal with sub-micron tolerances, create novel solutions, and clearly communicate across disciplines.
Role
- Lead opto-mechanical Engineering efforts in a cross-functional team environment
- Brainstorm new system architectures and converge on feasible opto-mechanical designs
- Build, test, and refine prototypes and high precision test fixtures
- Provide guidance on opto-mechanical considerations to greater team of researchers and hardware engineers
- Solve complex mechanical problems by inventing and integrating state of the art technologies and methods
Skills
- 3+ years of mechanical or opto-mechanical engineering experience
- Knowledge in 3D modeling, SolidWorks or NX - Testing and analysis experience
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing techniques (Machining, 3D printing, injection molding etc.)
- Experience designing and prototyping of precision optics systems
- Knowledge of assembly and alignment of optical bench-top assemblies including linear and angular adjustments
- GD&T knowledge and practical application for precision optics or other components
- Exposure or direct experience with mechanical and optics metrology devices such as CMM, OMM, and interferometry
- Knowledge of optical component mounting, interfaces, and adhesive bonding
- Familiar with optics manufacturing techniques (glass lens, plastic lens, coatings)
- Advanced knowledge of materials and structural modeling/optimization
- Passive thermalization experience
- FEA, Simulation, and Zemax/Ray Tracing skills
Education: BSME, MSME preferred
