Serves as a law clerk/paralegal responsible for directly and independently supporting the attorneys in the USAO by relieving them of one or more routine work assignments concerning one or more aspects of litigation. Also facilitates investigation, review, or research performed by the attorneys.
The law clerk/paralegal support and legal research assignments require significant specialized knowledge in the area of federal criminal and civil law and procedure, including statutes and case law regarding a wide range of issues.
Provides a variety of direct law clerk/paralegal support services to the USAO. Typical assignments include:
Performing specialized legal research and writing in support of federal cases and
matters through the research and analysis of statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases to include those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature,
Utilizing a variety of automated legal research tools as well as public information databases and other automated resource to research case-or program-specific legal matters, and to participate in assigned areas of civil proceedings, e.g. electronic discovery.
Performing legal research on particular issues and cases identified by the attorneys researching cases, law, statutes, regulation, court rules, policies, procedures, legal periodicals, and other legal authorities that are relevant to the particular issue. Organizing these source materials by providing summaries, bibliographies, and indices preliminary written notice of its intent to exercise the option; however, the lack of such a written notice will not in any way lessen the Government's unilateral right to extend the task order pursuant to this clause. If such a preliminary notice is provided, it shall not be construed as an exercise of the option nor will it bind the Government to exercise the option.
