Senior Category Analyst

The new Senior Category Analyst will champion the development and maintenance of the go-to-market analytics designed to support, track, and grow core and new product initiatives for our clients and retail partner (Kroger). They will act as a leader by providing the analytics and insights needed to optimize pricing, distribution, displays, shelf placement, along with other key activities. The position will develop and maintain value-added and actionable category management tools, incorporating customer learning and strategic brand insights that will guide sales and business managers to achieve volume and profit objectives. This position will perform as if they are the category manager, internal consultant and trusted advisor to our sales organization and the client.


  • Implement category management strategy aligned with the gold standard merchandising vision

  • Develop fact-based category reviews, Interviews, business reviews and selling stories

    • Present business reviews to client, clearly articulating trends and recommendations to optimize strategic planning and selling efforts by using 84.51, ACNielsen, and IRI

    • Develop and deliver account presentations relative to new items, share of shelf, and/or efficient assortment

  • Create, maintain and perfect analytical tools, reporting and resources leveraged against the client

  • Improve methodology related to reporting, analysis, identifying distribution voids and quantifying opportunity gaps

  • Track, monitor and provide actionable feedback on ACV/distribution, sales trends, shelf management

  • Utilize distributor, syndicated, and consumer research to develop fact-based analysis and business reviews

  • Conduct promotional planning support via in-depth retailer specific analysis (Kroger)

  • Work with the Key Account Managers to manage the distribution priorities by retailer and determine key opportunities

  • Evaluate effectiveness of programs and communicate strategy and best practices internally and externally

  • Have a solid understanding of consumer purchase/behavioral data and basic working knowledge of 84.51 and how this data source integrates with Kroger POS (Spectrum) data

  • Utilize and understand Nielsen and IRI syndicated scanning and National Consumer Panel data used to generate information for business reviews

  • Initiate and participate with Business Managers/Shopper Insights and principals in the design, implementation and evaluation of local marketing

    Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Traits:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 5-7 years CPG industry sales and category management experience

  • MUST HAVE: High level of proficiency in Market6, Spectrum, 84.51, Nielsen, IRI

  • MUST HAVE: In-depth experience in selling story development, category reviews & category management principals

  • MUST HAVE: Well-honed analytical and highly advanced Excel & PowerPoint skills

  • A proven record of leading category and business reviews

  • Advanced communications skills, ability to clearly articulate complex concepts in a concise manner

  • A demonstrated competency in multi-tasking and problem-solving with focus on meeting deadlines

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinker; can turn self-developed strategies/efficient processes into execution

  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Self - motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Travel Requirements: 5-10% to present to client

Reporting Structure: Reports to Kroger VP, Team Lead - based out of Cincinnati Office
