General Description:

We are looking for an experienced Facilities and EHS manager to bring together their influence, managerial skills and knowledge of safety and operational procedures to ensure that our Headquarters operate safely and efficiently. The facilities managed under this role will include both our lab, where our engineers and scientists execute experiments to advance the CZero Technology; as well as our office, which houses the R&D design work, as well as our corporate functions of operations, engineering, and finance.

The role will report to our Sr Director of Operations, and be a full time on site role at our headquarters in Goleta, CA.

Detailed Duties



  • Work closely with lab team members to identify opportunities and effective solutions to support business and quality objectives and improve efficiency and effectiveness of lab operations
  • Manage and improve the Lab inventory processes (i.e. consumables and tools)
  • Engaging with the team to establish and manage a laboratory operational cleanliness and effectiveness program (i.e. 5S or similar)
  • Establish and maintain lab equipment management program (including equipment ops and maintenance manuals, calibration program) to ensure reliable and quality results of our work

  • Monitoring the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, parking lots and outdoor recreation spaces
  • Coordinating routine maintenance and repairs on facilities as needed
  • Scheduling routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors
  • Manage building security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with security system vendors - doorbell, physical keys, app, codes, alarm
  • Collaborating with building owners and upper management on budgeting for facilities needs
  • Manage office supplies inventory/ordering (i.e. Notepads, pens, covid masks, covid test kits, etc.)
  • Breakroom supplies (i.e. snacks, paper towels, utensils, soap, sponges, coffee, etc.)
  • Manage office equipment and furniture, including desk and computer assignments furnishing building/decorating and general cleanliness
  • IT provider management - unify, cox business relationships

  • Managing maintenance issues that come up (HVAC, water leaking, non-lab equipment not working), through our 3rd party maintenance service providers
  • Identifying space constraints and proactively working to alleviate them (e.g. new triangle, removing lab heater, office desk arrangement and layout)
  • Managing build out of new facility elements (i.e. outdoor enclosure for lathe equipment)
  • Manage and coordinate external contractors related to facility upkeep and improvement:

  • Developing, implementing and leading team engagement in safety policies and procedures, including identifying risks and providing training to employees on how to execute day to day CZero activities safely. Examples include:
    • All safety policies, processes, SOP's etc
    • Risk assessment and audit process
    • Safety equipment and supplies audit process
    • Lab safety orientation for employee onboarding
    • All safety training
  • Ensuring that all safety equipment in the office and the lab is in good working condition and available for use by all employees
  • Conducting inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and create plans to eliminate them
  • Managing incident and near miss reporting and investigation program, including maintaining records of accidents and injuries to track trends and improve safety measures
  • Creating and enforcing occupational health and safety standards in accordance with federal, state, and international regulations
  • Monitoring the work environment and engaging with team members to ensure that it is safe for employees to work in
  • Maintaining records of completed activity risk assessments and incident / near miss reporting
  • Organizing and running weekly/fortnightly/monthly lab safety meetings
  • Reporting on safety performance and program health to exec team
  • Serving as an internal resource for EHS questions
  • Managing overall CZero lab safety documentation
  • Soliciting feedback from team on items to improve lab safety

  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a lab or facilities manager.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in safety management or related experience
  • Experience developing and managing safety related programs
  • Experience leading positive change
  • Experience working in a lab would be advantageous, including laboratory health and safety protocols
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards

Additional Requirements
  • Experience in Organizational efficiency and effectiveness programs, i.e. 5S
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, or other related technical field an asset
  • Certification in EHS
  • A proactive and highly motivated individual
