INSIDER is hiring a full-time editor to focus on health.
The team covers health through stories like "More women are using marijuana while pregnant, but doctors aren't sure how it might affect their babies," "7 ways that drinking coffee is connected to better health and a longer life," and "Marie Kondo's Netflix special 'Tidying Up' has gone viral after seemingly changing people's lives, but experts stress a clean space isn't for everyone." The health vertical covers a wide range of topics, from nutrition to rare diseases to sex and relationships, and the health editor should be excited about tackling all of these and more.
Our style is smart, conversational, exciting, and geared toward a general audience. That means this editor will work on quick news posts, slideshows, provocative essays, and feature stories, among other things.
The ideal candidate is someone with a science and health editing background who is sharp, quick-thinking, and comfortable juggling multiple stories on a short turnaround. This person should be excited about INSIDER's mission to serve a huge digital audience through all kinds of storytelling, via all digital platforms.
We're looking for someone with the following:
A natural ability to pick out health trends and frame news in a way that communicates to readers how it will impact them
Adeptness at balancing the demands of both accuracy and speed
A strong multi-tasking and deadline-oriented style
The ability to make complex ideas easy to understand
Experience working with both staff and freelance writers
Copyediting skills and knowledge of social media and SEO best practices
At least 3 years experience as a science or health editor
