### Summary
This position has been identified as one of the key fire management
positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM)
Standard. This position has been categorized as an prescribed fire
and fuels specialist, high complexity, and requires selectee to meet
the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed

### Responsibilities
- Analyze current fire management plan from a fuels management
perspective.
- Prepare preattack plans for specific areas analyzing topography,
vegetation, commodity and non-commodity values, under various
cumulative drought and fire behavior conditions and develop
tactical approaches.
- Prepare and implement fire prescriptions and other specific
fuels management plans designed to reduce hazardous fuel
loading, improve wildlife habitat, prepare seedbeds or achieve
other resource management objectives.
- Serve as an instructor for prescribed and wildfire courses.
- Provide input into planning and budgeting for the zone fire
planning and fuels management program.

western U.S. for incident assignments lasting up to 14 days.

### Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Security Clearance/Background Investigation is required.
- You cannot hold an active real estate license: nor can you have
an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal
Lands.
- Direct Deposit Required.
- This is a seasonal appointment; you will be in a pay status for
at least 6 months, but less than 12 months a year. When work or
funds are not available you will be placed in non-pay status.
- 90 days wildland fire experience required.
- You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date
of the announcement.
- Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be
required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use
and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this
position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- Passage of a pre-employment physical is required.
- May require completion of a 1 year probationary period.
### Qualifications
We must be able to determine that you meet the specialized
experience requirement - please be sure to include this information

professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community,
student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies,
knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and
experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will
receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer
experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1
year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower
grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal,
your resume must show periods worked.
**You may qualify at the GS-08 level, if you fulfill one of the
following qualification requirements:**
1. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade
level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience
in forest or range fire control, prevention, or suppression
work; **OR**
2. A master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or
pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of
progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a
degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related.
Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies
necessary to do the work of the position, examples of qualifying
fields include fire science, fire management, or a closely
related discipline; **OR**
3. A combination of education and experience as listed above.
**You may qualify at the** **GS**-**09** **level, if you fulfill one
of the following qualification requirements:**
1. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade
level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience
in forest or range fire control, prevention, or suppression
work; **OR**
2. A master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or
pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of
progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a
degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related.
Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies
necessary to do the work of the position, examples of qualifying
fields include fire science, fire management, or a closely
related discipline; **OR**
3. A combination of education and experience as listed above.
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special
qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform
the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do
not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s)
will be rated not qualified.
\* Wildland Firefighting Experience Requirement: This position
requires previous wildland firefighting experience (at least 90
days). Wildland firefighting experience is defined as experience
gained through work on the fire line in containment, control, or
suppression of wildland fire. Experience may be related to wildfires
or, fire line experience on a prescribed fire (this does not include
experience in the planning stages).
\* The applicant must have possessed all of the following National
Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management
qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible
for this position.
- have held or currently hold one of the NWCG qualifications or
higher: Incident Commander Type 3 OR Task Force Leader (TFLD) OR
Helibase Manager Type 1 AND
- have held or currently hold the NWCG qualifications or higher:
Prescribed Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2)

requirement for movement from a primary to secondary position to
be eligible for special retirement coverage. It is the
