The incumbent functions as an Engineering Equipment Operator. The primary purpose of this position is to operate a variety of gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction heavy equipment in all terrain environments to include mountainous, remote, and steep slope environments characterized by graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, and hilly forests. May also operate other types of motor vehicles and be responsible for maintaining assigned equipment, and perform additional non-grade controlling duties.
**Physical Effort**: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. in Addition, the physical effort is strenuous because of the large pieces of equipment and the requirement for more frequent adjustments under more adverse operating conditions.
**Working Conditions:** The operation of larger and more complicated equipment in more difficult circumstances increases the exposure to injury, overturning, noise, and vibration.

This position requires possession and maintenance of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate special endorsements to perform the work of the position The license must be obtained prior to being assigned operator duties.
D.O.T. DRUG TESTING REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION. This position requires possession of a Commercials Driver's License (CDL). As such, it is a Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. If the person selected for the position does not currently occupy a CDL Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position, he/she will be required to submit to and receive a negative test result prior to appointment. A positive drug or alcohol test result may be grounds for denying final placement into this position. In addition, the Act mandates that the incumbent will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing and that he/she may also undergo reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.
This position requires you to wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with the job.
If selected for this position you will need to complete the Federal Information Systems Security Awareness (FISSA) training prior to start date (if applicable).
OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision.
