Production Manager - Distillery/Warehouse and Processing

Responsible for leading the Woodford Reserve distillery, warehouse, and processing teams to produce high quality, on-time and cost-efficient product with an annual distillery volume of 750,000 proof gallons, processing volume of 2.5 million proof gallons and annual new entry volume of approximately 80,000 barrels. Leads and supports the success and development of approximately 20 full-time and temporary employees across a multi-shift operation. As a member of the plant leadership team, this role is a key contributor in driving the facility's strategic priorities, including safety, environmental, morale, quality, diversity and inclusion, continuous improvement, and cost containment, that contribute to the long-term success of the operation.
Basic Functions:
Ensure the efficient utilization of the distillery, warehouse, and processing operations to produce top quality bourbon within the prescribed practices for quality, cost, and safety
Drive daily, weekly and monthly KPI results while coaching/developing operators, technicians and support staff
Set strategic direction for the department by ensuring operators are an integral part of team problem solving and are skilled in equipment, process and product quality for root cause analysis
Provide production guidance and technical support to appropriate team members to drive toward operational excellence
Plan, monitor, and manage the distillery, warehouse, and processing teams.
Partner with Production Planning, Quality Control, Bottling, and Maintenance leadership to ensure clear integration and coordination among departments; foster employee empowerment and collaboration and provide the required resources to support the work teams; assist work teams in applying improvements to their functions and processes for better results
+ Manage day-to-day operations and production teams within distillery to achieve all Safety, Environmental, Morale, Quality, Productivity, Delivery, and Cost (SMQPDC) goals; ensure team members are driving toward a safe and clean work environment as key priorities for the site
+ Coach, mentor, and develop Warehousing Assistant PPL and Processing PPL to support attainment of operational SMQPDC goals. Ensure team members are driving toward a highly safe and clean work environment as key priorities for the site
+ Develop and maintain the distillery and processing departments' operating and capital budgets; monitor performance of the budgets and adjust to meet expectations; manage raw materials inventory to minimize costs and seek cost reduction opportunities
+ Coach, mentor, and develop the distillery team in the day-to-day operation of the milling, yeasting, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and barreling to produce our top quality bourbons and whiskeys
+ Evaluate and directly manage operating practices and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency of distillery assets; indirectly manage the evaluation of operating practices and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the warehouse and processing
+ Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures for personnel, including administering and/or reviewing disciplinary actions
+ Ensure the daily work schedule and expectations are communicated across the departments, coordinating with the work teams to determine necessary staffing and support needs
+ Update, create and implement standard operating procedures in the distillery, warehouse, and processing to accurately and effectively run operations
+ Develop, implement and evaluate job specific skills training for each individual employee, coordinate efforts with natural work teams
+ Develop as a continuous improvement leader within the organization; integrate into the Continuous Improvement pillars and teams that will drive zero loss, efficiency gains and cost savings
+ Partner with the HR and finance teams to project required staffing needs, including internal and external requirements, coordination of supplemental staffing services, and related payroll-reporting requirements
+ Support the Plant Director in preparation and administration of the annual operations budget for labor and overhead; actively participate in determining opportunities and evaluating cost savings projects
+ Support the Maintenance and Engineering Manager by utilizing work order processes, Preventive Maintenance program, and equipment downtime tracking
+ Support team in operational problem resolutions, continuous improvement and standardization of production processes
+ Coordinate partnerships with vendors of on-line products and systems to identify and report raw material quality problems, including charge-back of related personnel costs to the appropriate parties when problems occur
+ Process all necessary information and procedures required for production operation reports
+ Submit weekly and monthly reports of operations to the Plant Director and other departments
**Must Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in science or engineering with a minimum five years operational management experience
+ Experience leading both production operators and support staff
+ Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing groups and major projects or initiatives
+ Strong interpersonal skills; able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization
+ Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to assess performance of equipment utilized in production operations
+ Ability to manage and complete assigned workload within established deadlines and to constantly seek new improvement ideas
+ Ability to work additional hours and/or shifts to meet departmental goals (including weekends as needed)
+ Ability to work under tight time constraints to meet departmental goals
+ Ability to implement employee involvement processes and contribute to the growth of team-based leadership
+ Ability to recognize new applications and possess and the will to change for the better of the company
+ Demonstrated ability to use computer software with general computer skills
+ Knowledge of chemistry and physics as applied to distillery.
**Preferred Requirements:**
+ Engineering degree
+ Experience in distillery, warehouse, and/or processing
+ Experience leading Continuous Improvement initiatives (Daily Management, Autonomous Maintenance, etc.)
+ Significant experience and expertise in problem solving processes
+ SAP knowledge within distilled spirits industry
