Job Title: Financial Controller
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Overview:
The Financial Controller position is a new position due to an internal promotion within the department and a restructuring of the department. A good candidate will be self-motivated, energetic and hard working. They will have a thirst for learning, problem solving and developing both the Company and themselves for the long-term. This person will be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside a seasoned CFO/CPA and owners who value the operations of the company and the financial support systems behind the operations.
Job Summary:
The Financial Controller will be expected to work with the CFO and Cost Controller to drive/create first class financial systems, produce and maintain quality data and further develop the skills of the accounting department staff. The Financial Controller will direct and manage the financial accounting functions for the company including the supervision of 3 full time accounting specialists responsible for the accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting functions as well as one part time data entry clerk. This role will be responsible for collections, including the filing of liens and/or bond claims as necessary per the CFO. In addition, they will guide the disbursement process by reviewing, approving and scheduling weekly disbursements. They will maintain our cash book and assist the CFO in all cash management functions. Individual will apply use tax concepts to complete the use tax portion of the monthly sales/use tax report. This role will coordinate month end closing with the Cost Controller, conduct the initial analysis of the statements, benchmark company results and research questions as needed before submitting to the CFO. The Financial Controller will also lead the annual financial statement audit in coordination with the external CPA firm. This also includes the preparation of a variety of annual compliance reports. This position would also complete the annual insurance audit work papers and provide assistance to the CFO with the renewal process.
Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):
- Direct and manage financial accounting functions including the documentation of these functions
- Monitor cross-departmental coordination of work flows to provide top quality, effective and efficient service and support of operations
- Keep abreast of new accounting pronouncements related to general accounting, cost accounting and tax and be an integral part of implementing them for the company
- Oversee all aspects of the collection process
- Maintain strong internal controls and assist in the development and implementation of new procedures to enhance the work flow of the department including the documentation of all controls and processes
- Monthly financial statement preparation
- Year-end financial audit
- Manage and mentor the financial accounting team
- Handle employee matters for direct reports including hiring, assigning work, performance review, addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Will become a primary contact for accounting software hotline issues for the department
- Will work with the IT department to create and maintain strong financial reporting tools, data collection and analysis of that data
- Will support CFO and management personnel to complete strategic company objectives
- Assist others as needed

Requirements:
Experience:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in construction accounting (industry or public accounting)
- Viewpoint's Spectrum software experience is a plus
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field is required
- CPA license is required or the desire & ability to obtain CPA license in the future
- Chartered Global Management (CGMA) and/or Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation a plus
