Brooklyn Music School is seeking a Development Associate to provide critical support to the fundraising goals of this 110-year-old community music school that serves over 8,000 students across NYC. You will be joining the organization at a transformational time when a significant expansion of the facility is underway and the institution has achieved a high degree of visibility with elected officials and the media for growth and innovation. You should be highly motivated to make an impact, eager to learn, have a strong work ethic and tenacity to reach big goals.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Coordinating our annual Gala and a range of cultivation events during the non-Gala season
  • Maintaining our donor CRM and overseeing all thank you, recognition and cultivation communications
  • Executing parent engagement strategies including a "Giving Tuesday" and annual fund appeal
  • Researching and sourcing grant opportunities that align with the program and operating priorities of BMS
  • Writing clear and accurate grant proposals aligned with funders' priorities and leveraging our library of winning grants

Successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Superior organizational capabilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines and multi-task
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Comfort with database management and learning new IT/CRM systems
  • Hunger to learn and advance in the profession of development and fundraising
  • Basic budgeting skills
  • Comfortable collaborating with marketing, finance, executive director and board
  • Personable and persuasive manner


Bachelors degree
