Head of Operations

Brackish Charleston, SC

The Head of Operations is part of the Brackish leadership team and oversees the company’s oversees the company's product realization team, including the supply chain. The ideal candidate is curious, a get-stuff-done fanatic and has amazing internal sales skills. This individual is responsible for overseeing the entire operations team and overall production operations, which includes active management of labor, productivity, quality control, shipping, sourcing and safety measures. The Head of Operations will focus on regularly improving operational procedures, systems and principles, enhancing management reporting and tracking and seek to grow productivity, reduce costs and maintain high quality levels.


· Ensure the company is in a position to meet its sales goal by overseeing operations to meet customer demands

· Work collaboratively with the sales department to execute forecasted plans

· Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews

· Regularly seek ways to improve processes, grow efficiency and improve quality

· Prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiate corrective action if needed

· Ensure inventory is accurate and processes and people are in place to effectively manage these systems

· Oversee all department managers and supervisors in the operations department

· Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel and discipline employees as needed

· Communicate job expectations and appraise and review employees on a regular basis

· Manage staff levels, wages, hours and contract labor against budgets

· Manage a safe and injury/accident free workplace

· Communicate customer issues with the operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience

· Track vendor pricing, rebates and service levels and manage materials expenditures against budgets; initiate corrective action if needed

· Enforce company policies and instill company core values in all employees

Required Technical Skills

· Production process design and costing

· Product Planning / scheduling for made-to-order products or similar

· Manufacturing materials resource planning and control

· Ability to design and implement costs, quality control, processes and systems

· Ability to design and implement employee training and production processes

· Maintain a 360-degree view of a business and its interrelated functions

· Knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts

Desired Technical Skills (not required)

· Experience in a piece-rate pay environment

· Working knowledge of OSHA Safety and Training requirements

· Working knowledge of effective HR practices and procedures

Essential Qualifications

· Experienced manager / supervisor in a labor-intensive manufacturing environment

· Change manager: ability to manage and supervise front line managers and technical support to identify and execute process improvements

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Team builder

· Proven success working with sales and marketing functions

· Proven ability to directly and positively impact bottom-line performance
