  • The Sterile Processing Educator/Coordinator has the responsibility for education and competencies, direct supervision of staff as needed, financial insight, purchasing recommendations, regulatory agencies compliance, and quality monitoring, reporting and improvement. Development and implementation of policies, procedures, training and competencies for team members in collaboration with Coordinators and Surgical Services as needed. Maintains communications and relationships with Surgical Services, Endoscopy, same day surgery center, all outside departments/clinics and customers. Demonstrates excellent customer service and coordinates services with/for Surgical Services, Clinics, other Bozeman Health entities, and outside customers.
  • Required:
  • + Associates degree in science or related healthcare
  • Preferred:
  • + Bachelor's Degree in Health Science Field.
  • Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent in sterile processing
  • Medical Terminology
  • Required:
  • + CRCST within 1 year of hire, must remain current
  • Preferred:
  • + Current CRST
  • Current CER
  • Current CIS- Certified Instrument Specialist
  • Required:
  • + Working within the field of sterile processing for 3-5 years.
  • Preferred:
  • + Surgical Technologist or Certified Sterile Processing Technologist
  • 2 years health care experience in Surgical Services
  • + AAMI, DNV-GL and state regualtions for Sterile Processing
  • Sterile Processing equipment and procedures
  • Supply purchasing
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable
  • Basic Human Resource standards and requirements including direct supervision, training, evaluation and conflict resolution.
  • Basic financial skills, accounts receivable/payable and budget variances
  • + Oral and written communication skills
  • Organization and time management
  • Personal computers, hardware, basic software programs including e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheets - Required
  • Reading skills
  • Basic Accounting and Math skills
  • Customer Service including interpersonal skills
  • Sterile Processing and Surgical Instrument identification and handling
  • Equipment and machines related to sterile processing
  • + Refer to policy manual for specific instructions/guidelines. Follow established Policies and Procedures.

  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments.
  • Conduct and attend staff meetings and in-services
  • Physically and mentally capable of performing all duties of the position
  • Keep Administration/Direct Supervisor apprised of situations directly affecting Sterile Processing department and employees.
  • Manage time and prioritize.
  • Maintain composer and facilitate stressful and complex workloads.
  • + Work independently with minimal to no supervision.
  • Able to manage a minimum of 12 FTE.
  • 30% Time Spent
  • Responsible for overall training of SPD employees including SP Technicians and Coordinators.
  • Ensures Human Resource documentation is complete.
  • Ensures employee compliance to hospital and department policy, procedures and standards.
  • Serves as a resource for Coordinators including policy, procedures, standards and employee management.
  • Organizes orientation, competencies and training for SPD employee, Surgical Services and other employees as requested.
  • Maintains documentation,orientation, and competency records.
  • 30% Time Spent
  • Implements, oversees and maintains service and quality standards for the SPD services including support for Surgical Services, Clinics, Outside Customers and Vendors.
  • Establishes department goals consistent with the organizations strategic plan and other objectives; implements actions to achieve goals.
  • Provides ongoing clear communications with/for the SPD staff and with/for other departments i.e. Surgical Services.
  • Coordinates services and procedures with customers,vendors, departments and clinics with Bozeman Health and outside entities.
  • Serves as department representative for organisational committees, projects, meetings, etc. as assigned.
  • Inventory and department purchasing
  • 25% Time Spent
  • Initiates and maintains quality program and safety standards
  • Ensures compliance to industry standards per AAMI and state regulations
  • Maintains department quality documentation.
  • Assist with other areas of responsibility in the absence of immediate supervisor
  • 10% Time Spent
  • Tracks and maintains volume statistics.
  • 5% Time Spent
  • Conducts department meetings and in-services
  • Ensures department statistics are maintained
  • Maintains reference materials for employees
  • Oversees Environmental Services cleaning of the department
  • Conducts QI monitors and actions to improve services
  • Tasks assigned by direct Supervisors
